ok, forget fd or aftermarket

So I have this idea, and I need a few opinions. I figured since it seems to be that due to railing issues, aftermarket seats tend to sit higher in the fc. So, my idea is to get my seats re-upholstered and remove a layer or completely change out the cushion to give an extra inch or so. Does this sound like it work, if so, does anyone know of a material that can give the most comfort with the least amount of thickness that i can use to replace the seat cushion with???

Im just wondering: Whats your issue with the current seating arrangement? Is this because you are tall or just want to be different?

It would make more sense to me if you modified the seat base so the rails sat nearly flush with the seat bottom.

What seats do you have now? The TII seats are a great upgrade from the flatter GXL/na seats. IF you already have TII seats, then I don't know.

Speaking of which, are TII seats available by chance or is there somewhere you can buy them consistently? And...are they the same brackets

They'll bolt right in to any FC. They shouldn't be too hard to find in the for sale section.

Look man, if you're good with fabricating brackets, then changing seats will not be a problem for you. Hell, on my FB, the stock seats were flat, so I got some flat-bottomed racing seats. By custom fabricating some brackets, the seats will only sit about 1/16" higher (thickness of the metal) but the racing seats are LOWER.

If you start cutting out foam and support wires, your *** will be on the floor in no time. You'll really hate it. What would be the next step, a phone book? Just find some small seats like miata seats, rx8 seats, 350z seats look really nice, maybe some RSX seats? Hell, honda del-sol seats are tiny. Anything can work so long as it fits within the boundaries of the car. Obviously you wouldn't want to use a lincoln towncar seat, but you get the idea. Just go to HF and get a cheap $10 angle grinder, take a trip to lowes and get some steel, and start cutting **** up to make brackets!!

Yes, mainly due to my height, however I looking for more leg room from the steering wheel, my thoughts are that if i lower the seat, the legs space will increase just enough to were I want it.

Take the seats to a competent upholstery shop, they can give you better advice than people on the internet who just swap in seats from parts cars.

Maybe, maybe not.
I doubt that most upholstery shops will be familiar with the perverse passenger side mounting arrangement that Mazda cursed our cars with.

Keep in mind though, when you crash the car you want the seats to stay in place...

Bride makes a low profile seat rail that will sit any after market seat lower than your stock seat.

Sounds like you're talking about a Foamectomy.
A LOT of Miata guys cut some of the foam out of the seat so that they can fit under their rollbars with a helmet on. You can gain at least an inch and a half of headroom, keep the OEM safety of your stock seat and save a few bucks while you're at it.
