Did you run the motor for both times, turn off the engine and then check? Maybe at one point or another there is more oil in the oil cooler than in the engine.

nope, both times ice cold before I started it in the a.m.
just had the lower oil cooler line replaced and have tons of oil in the driveway so I am watching it very closely and trying to ascertain whether it is engine oil or ps fluid leaking from the newly rebuilt rack
$650 to fix oil leaks last month and as bad as ever
