Question Oil Leak

My '87 White Base Model with 197k just did a hiccup on me yesterday.

I had just pulled out of the maion entrance to USF for lunch when the engine alarm went off. Immediately I pulled over and shut it down. When I checked the oil, it was dry, even though I had just added a quart the night before.

Called AAA and hauled it to my old buddy Jeff at Maztech (Tampa)

Meanwhile, I walked about 3/4 mile back to my office.

Turns out, the hose that transports oil had blown.........Jeff replaced it with a SS braided hose.

Picked it up last night, and all is well.

My question is this. With something as critical to a rotary as oil, why is the hose anything other than Braided stainless Steel? Why use a hose that can deteriorate over time?

If it wasnt metal or braided than it was probably already replaced, may have been damaged and cheaply fixed, unless your the original owner for all 197k?
