Exclamation Oil cooling??

I just put my car in the shop last week t have the oil cooling lines replaced because they were leaking pretty badly.... when they fixed the prob they found it seems since the presure was back to normal tey found another leak. They said I could just bypass it and no use the oil cooling system?? Isnt that like not a good thin?? They came from the factory with those oil cooling systems right, its an 88 SE anyways its not gonna be in the shop il thurs and im bummed and I have a even emptier wallet than before

Do not run your car under normal driving conditions with out an oil cooler. You might be able to get away with it for a short time or on a short trip to the store but it is there for a reason.

See if that shop will put it in writing that it is ok for you to run it with out the oil cooler. And also have them write out that they will pay for a new Mazda reman engine installed by the dealership when your car overheats from not having an oil cooler. That is the only way I would let them bypass the oil cooler.

BTW: I would never take any car back to that mechanic.

30% of the cooling is accomplished by the oil cooler

To be more specific, 100% of the cooling of the rotors and eccentric shaft is by the lubrication system! DO NOT EVER drive the car without an oil cooler. Go back to the shop and tell them that their "fix" would have cost you your engine and them a free rebuild (or a court case), and that you're never going back.

Nz I stand corrected. My statement was 30% of the Total cooling load ( heat rejection) of the engine. John

Banzai, you're still right it's just that the rotors and e-shaft are cooled only by the oil/lube system. Damn...what SOME mechanics will do to get you back in the.
