Oil control rings?
My s5 vert puts out a ton of smoke on startup after sitting more than 4 hours, the smoke is definitely from oil. After about 15 minutes in the shop warming up, or 5 minutes of driving it goes away. When driving right after a cold start up, the most smoke is coming when i drop more than 1-1.5k rpm (i.e. during a shift). Searching i have come up with it most likely being oil control rings. It has no problem at all whatsoever running, it is a very strong feeling engine, its just the smoke. I dont really care that it smokes in the morning, its just when i get off work, and it fills up the road for the first 5 minutes im driving it that really sucks...lol
I am planning on doing a TII swap in 4 to 6 months, so i dont really want to spend much money on this motor, however, I am hoping to have this car as a daily driver until then (i have another car but the old lady is going to be using it as her daily starting in a couple weeks). I have a little time to get the engine out and tear it apart if i need to, but i need to make it quick and as cheap as possible. I usually dont like to do anything cheap, but im trying to save for a TII swap... I dont really want to rebuild the entire engine, because i want it to be cheap.
So i guess my question is, is there a way to know for sure that it is the oil control rings? Could i be lucky and it be something else that is easy and cheap to fix?
Need any more info, feel free to ask...
thanks,
Brandon

ya its n/a, and i was thinking the same thing, but when i left work today, i started the car and sat there for about 1 minute while i fiddled with my phone, and the whole parking lot was filled with smoke...lol
i still may just live with it for now, but then again, if i can spend $50 and a weekend on making the motor not smoke, then i have a spare motor if i have troubles with the TII. If it continues to smoke, ill get sick of it, and just want to get rid of it when i get the TII.
i dont really know what i want to do, i guess i could go either way at this point, its just annoying...
