oh crap please help me!!!

ok so i was working on my car today, adjusting my timing and idle. after i make my adjustments I start the car and as soon as it fires it locks up. I tried to rotate the engine by hand (wrench on the power steering pully cause I cant get to the crank bolt.

I know there are supposed to be way to unlock it but how can i do it without having to take my radiator out, i live in an apartment and cant do to much disassembly so any suggestions would be great

it could be carbon locked...what u have to do for that is rotate the rotors around slowly, back and fourth by moving the main bolt (the one with the 3 pulleys) with a breaker bar. also pouring some diesel fuel through the sparkplug holes helps a great deal in helping lube up the rotors. your car will smoke a "little" after firing it back up but don't worry thats just the diesel burning off

thanks, i'll try that but I cant get to the main pulley bolt without taking the radiator out so would one of the others be alright or does it have to be the main pulley

Pull the fan off you should be able to work in the breaker bar in if you do. It should only be 4 10 mm bolts holding it in. If you haven't already you should pull a plug from each rotor the motor should be easier to turn over by hand that way.

I think you're missing the overall gravity of the situation. That is, you're worried about taking a shortcut by trying to turn various pullies instead of taking 15 minutes and gaining access to the main one. Whereas, very shortly, you might be worrying about engine replacement, because if the engine is truly locked up then it's an internal failure (apex seal in all likelihood) that requires rebuild/replacement. The 15 minutes to pull the stock fan and shroud off will be the least of your worries then...

true Im going to replace the engine no matter what I just wanted to wait till next summer to do it. I got to working on it today and it would not budge, Im going to check the starter tommorow and make sure that the pinion did not get jammed in the flywheel, I have my fingers crossed.........

remove starter, trans in neutral, remove all accessory belts. This removes all EXTERNAL forces that could act on an engine and cause it not to turn. You can also remove the sparkplugs to be sure it isn't just compression making it resistant to turning. IF it's locked then, you're up the creek.

And please dont be one of these guys that asks 10 threads about different ways to "unlock" your engine, thinking that if there were only some way to make it turn again, it'd be okay. IN reality, the very fact that it stopped turning tells you that something is very wrong, and whatever that is isn't going to just fix itself. And you, by the very act of trying to turn it, are probably making it worse. But it's likely a moot point regardless since there is about a 1/100 chance of it not needing replacement *IF* it fails the above test.

I owned a first gen about five years ago and had the starter pinion jam on it. I had it towed to my local dealer and they were able to get it loose and I never had another problem from it since, I did feel like an *** it took them only fifteen minutes to fix it and it cost me $150 towing and service added
