Odd happening.

Hey everyone,

I have searched already for the issue on several boards. I am actually posting for my friend. He has a 88 TII. Alot of Mods. Correct me if I am wrong, new to TII's. He's got a Street Ported engine with possible oversized rotors? (<-- not 100% on that with the rotors.) Was done by Adkins in California. It has a t4 Garrett 50 Trim Turbo, 5 speed, 3" exhaust all the way back with Apexi N1. Trust FMIC. Hardpipes etc.

Now to my question.
He is boosting right now at ~10 PSI on stock ECU ( Dont ask how) no FCD or anything. No upgraded secondaries or SAFC of any sort. I think he is running PIG rich, but FedEx is being weird and closing on Mondays, so he wont have a A/F Gauge so I can't confirm nor deny this face. He has sort of a hesitation going to like 4,000 RPM + It's not Fuel Cut. I read that it maybe a ground issue with the block. Can anyone confirm this? We checked for boost leaks, tightened the Turbo Inlet hose, the one that attaches to the MAF. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Lenn

You cannot run oversized rotors, that's just stupid.

If he's running 10PSI on the stock injectors he's probably running very lean.

If he's hesitating at 4000RPM then he's getting the 3800RPM hesitation. Grounds are the issue here, please check the FAQ for more help.

Tell ya what, perform a quick search using "hesitation", and you'll read about all kinds of theories on the issue, including the grounds. The grounds can be checked from the ECU fairly easily, if you want to go in that direction...Hopefully the links are still up on this link, and you can figure out which pins to check to ground from the ECU for continuity...

Like I said, I was unsure of the oversized rotors thing. I will def check out the link. The thing is, he doesnt have a MBC yet. He just bought a TurboXS one, it has a TEC External WG 45mm. So we are trying to find the actual actuator on the WG to hook up the MBC. It very well maybe he is running lean also. I appreciate the advice. Thanks again.

perhaps he is running higher compression rotors instead of oversized? it's amazing he hasn't blown up anything yet .

The weird thing is, and also correct me if im wrong, but he shoots fireballs unintentially out of the exhaust. Isnt that referring to to much gas which is he is running to rich? This is a learning exp for him and I. I just got into Factory Turbo cars myself, I was unfortunatly a Honda guy, until I learned the joys of a MKIII Supra Turbo. Either way. There is a shop around here that specializes in rx7's and it's 80 bucks for Wideband tuning for 3 runs. Hopefully FedEx will bring his A/F gauge so we can check out whats going on. I appreciate it thanks guys. Def need to get this tuned BAD aparently.

ok kids, this thread was about my car. i now have access to the net.
the one post about the oversized rotors he dident know. dont be so damn harsh on noobs. it wasent oversized obviously. they are just new clearanced rotors. the motor is the stage 2 streep port. im running cleaned and calibated stock injectors, my car is running rich, not lean. the hesitation is either the fuel cut or grounding. i will know for sure by tuesday. im getting my FCD. and we will see if it goes away. if not im getting the hks circle earth system.. if there are any other suggestions drop a line.

thanks
nick

If I were you take it easy on your setup until you can get a bigger fuel pump, external WG, boost controller and FCD installed.
