O2 wire/Precat/DP question

Ok so I did search, but can't find out the info I need. I understand why, but cant find how to fix it. Car is an 87 T2 mostly stock.

I found the O2 wire was spliced together on the Harness side. I pretty shure you cant just splice a shielded wire, correct me if I'm wrong How hard is it to replace this wire, and how do I do it. I'm looking for a write up. of what I'll need as far as tools and supplys. and a ball park figure of cost of material.

Now for the Pre cat question. I need to change my turbo/hollow out bad pre cat. So when I got to the top 2 bolts for the DP I found that they used cotter pin nuts with the notch. they also way over tightend them twisting them and cracking them. basically I can't figure out a way to get them off without cutting the precat in half. any suggestions?

i remember those funky looking nuts, rusted out too. CAn you cut them and replace with regular nuts and bolts? Or just replace it with a straight pipe.

I don't think there cutable, and the DP couldn't be strait, but I may have dreamed up a solution to the DP issue. if I thread on 2 bolts could pull the stud as a whole one to wrench on, one to lock it in place. I think this may be a doable solution. is it possable to pull turbo with the pre cat still on.

and still lookingfor info on replacing Gy sheilded wired for the O2 sensor. any help would be much apreiceated.

I'm not familiar with the type of nuts you're talking about, since mine just had typical nuts w/ thin pieces of sheet bent to lock them in place. I can't find a picture of them, but they basically just went where a washer would & had tabs to bend up. But if the nuts on yours are really stuck, pulling the whole stud is a good idea. You can replace them with some new non-rusted ones while you're at it.

And for the 02 sensor wire, how far back is is spliced into the harness? I know once you get far enough down, the stock harness wire is no longer shielded. And I know some people have just run an unshielded wire straight from the ECU, and apparently not had any problems. I suppose you could buy some shielded wire if you're worried about it.

I just don't know how to replace the wire as far as the plugs go. How do I put a new wire in the existing plug. thats my main quesion. I guess I sould of just said that. what do I need to do to replace the wire properly? I'd rather not splice it.

In the ECU plug you mean? A place like radioshack would probably stock those little copper sleeves that you crimp on, then slide into the back side of the plug.
