o2 sensor wire grounded

my o2 sensor wire that comes from the computer is grounded. i know the shielding wire will be grounded but what about the actual o2 wire??? why would it be grounded if it not suppose to be??

It shouldn't be. How many wires actually go the computer? One or two?

If there's only one, then it shouldn't go to ground, is what I'm getting at (in a roundabout way).

Wait a minute- how do you know it's grounding if you can't find a physical location? Are you just reading the center conductor to ground? In that case, you might be reading a ground THROUGH the O2 sensor- if they work anything like the thermocouples on jet engines, they're made up of two dissimilar metals (alumel & chromel) that generate a current when heated. Basically, one of the metals will go to ground, but when heated, it uses this ground to complete the circuit, so to speak, i.e. it doesn't act like a short in this case...

That make any sense???

Or, you may have grounded the sensor wire out on the tranny case-mine seems to rub there a lot. Check there first...

I'm confusing the hell out of you, aren't I?

when i disconnect the o2 sensor and test the center wire coming from the computer (wire harness) that is when i am testing for a gound using a voltage meter set on continuity.

would it be grounded then

No, if the sensor is disconnected at one end, and the plug at the computer is disconnected at the other end, you should not be reading anything to ground...

well it is definitly reading ground. i think this is a result from the alt wire shorting out and blowing the 100 amp main fuse. is there any way to test the computer???
