O2 sensor Q's.
In a 15 year old car, even if the O2 sensor passes all checks, do you think it should be replaced to get better MPG? I would imagine that it would become completely tarnished by exhaust gases for so many years, does anyone else think this is a good idea? Also, where can you get a cheap, yet good quality O2 sensor? Mazda wants $230 for my '87 GXL!!!!

I heard that the Bosch replacement doesn't fit the threads correctly in some cars, and I'm wondering if it's going to work with my RB headers. Is it exactly the same as stock?
On a side note, my friend just bought a Volvo S80, and they have platinum O2 sensors, and the dealer lists the replacement at $960!!!! WOW!!

I heard that aftermarket O2 sensors don't last more than like 10 minutes in an RX-7. Could just be rubbish though you never know what to believe on this damn forum.
My 02 sensor has 180k on it. The engine light came on a few months back, 02 sensor, I jiggled the wire and no light since.

For those of you who replaced it, did you notice better MPG or a bit extra torque and power?

I heard this too somewhere. The reason I'm asking is some guy mentioned that his O2 sensor never gave him any problems, but he decided to replace it anyway, and he regained massive HP that he had somehow lost because the O2 sensor was so old. I'm wondering if this same will be true with my vehicle.

That is the one that I got for my 86 TII and I cooked it. Well, I ran the engine so rich that it lost readability. The A/F meter would go nuts. I replaced it after I got the A/F ratio back to normal, and replaced the O2 sensor. Now it reads normal.
