Not Starting
I have a 87 turbo rx7. Im currently having issues with starting the car. It has 12v going to the coil and the coil also has the correct resistance. My question is the plugs are not firing. Its getting fuel just no fire. Also the oil dampener capacitor deal is missing from the car. Does anybody have one of these?

You can get the voltage regulator w/brushes from EBAY using part # 260285294069 for a search number on that site. See the first jpg.
Or you can go to Autozone and buy it there. Second jpg.
$22.00 bucks vs $49 bucks. See jpgs.
That's if the regulator/brushes are the problem. To check to see if the diodes in the rectifier are any good, see the third jpg attached. It takes a digital meter with a diode function and you have to remove the small plug from the alternator and also the large output cable.
The FSM has a section called ENGINE ELECTRICAL that has a tree to follow to check out alternators. I don't know what else to say.
If someone reads this and has a series five TURBO and is replacing the regulator, you'll find Autozone sells those for $83 big ones. The EBAY guy sells 'em for about $24 bucks. Different part number than the one cited in this thread. And they work just fine and dandy.
Same seller on EBAY sells the rectifier also. I've no idea of the price though.
I assume the original poster of this thread looked to see what the output of the alternator was when all the warning lights came on and it was 12v or less (engine running).
I also assumed the alternator was a 1987 alternator. I made a dwg showing the blades in the series four alt and series five. Yours is series four and the terminals should look like the lettter T. See jpg.
And or you could take the alternator off and have Autzone/Pepboys/whoever do a free check on it. I've never done that but it's said on this forum that they do free alternator checks.

Thanks for the awesome reply. I charged my battery on the charger last night and noticed the starter spun faster and the engine fired right up. Im gonna test the alternator here in a bit when my buddy gets down here because I'm missing my multimeter.

OK I tested the diodes and I'm only getting .465v so one of the diodes is bad. I'll look for a replacement. I took it to autozone and they ran some test on it and it failed all three of there tests. So either my alternator is broken in more ways then one or some dumbass works at Autozone, possibly both...
