Hi

I installed a new Turbo 2 style radiator to mi Fc.

the temp gauge is always running a litle higher than the midle.

is that normal?

got new 180 termostat also . and using destilled water with a botle of watter wetter.

Thanks

Somewhere around 2/3 for the water temp gauge is normal.

ive got a water and oil temp guage in mine, water runs 82-88c, outside temp doesnt matter, a/c makes a 1-2 degree difference

stock guage is right in the middle.

91 na, factory radiator, new factory thermostat

s5 gauges are also notoriously inaccurate. I know a guy with an 89 that overheated his **** and the gauge never even moved. S4 gauges are a little better--operating temp is about a 1/4 of the way up or so.

I use a 180 degree thermostat with a 1/8" hole drilled in it on my s4 and it doesn't get over 180 unless i'm pushing it really hard.

Well about 2/3 is a little over half, that's what I've read is "normal", and that's about what my car shows. It's NOT overheating.

It's a bit arbitrary as to what "normal" is, as it's more of a 3 position gauge: cold, warm and oh ****. There will be some variance from car to car. Whatever the normal position is for you will be fine, if it moves up from there, then shut it down immediately, as it might already be too late.

Look in the owners manual.
It actually states that "normal temps" can go as high as ~2/3 to 3/4...

hence my point that the stock gauge sucks...

my s5 gauge went well into the hot section when my stock radiator cracked. but then again, after i put in a griffin and water temp gauge, temps got up to 110C after a series of runs at a drift event and the stock gauge didnt even move.

You should be running 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water (unless "water wetter" is anti-freeze, sorry never heard of this)

Not only because the antifreeze cools better, but it lubes you waterpump bearings as well...

NEVER run straight water unless its an emergency situation.

If Antifreeze cools better... why not use pure antifreeze?

Actually, doesn't the manual say to use 30/70 antifreeze/water, or something like that? I thought that straight water actually disperses heat (cools) better than antifreeze, but you need antifreeze to prevent corrosion and help prevent isolated hotspots.

well actually on 3-6 of the FSM it states the ratios go up to 45/55(approx. in the FSM its only giving volume not a ratio) dependant on temp........my CDN manual states 45/55 after I checked....

As far as which cools better, I was under the impression that coolant has a higher transfer effciency than water, but I could be wrong - its happened before

straight water will cool better than a mix of water and antifreeze.

water wetter will help both.

Thanks for all the info guys, guess mi FC is okay.

Redline watter wetter was recomended to me by a guy at the dyno who's turbo2 made 436whp at 16psi of boost .with a gt42 turbo by the way

He told me that it cools better than water alone and the was destilled watter so that there are no mineral deposits or something like that.

I dont now if there was a diference b/c I did the radiator change as soo as I bougth the carand the car is completly stock.
