Non-turbo FC. Sports car or wannabe?
So I always see the TII describes as either real sports car('cause it is) or even a supercar. But i never hear the n/a FC described as anything except a n/a RX-7.
So cast your vote.

The 1987 original sales brochure, that I have laying around somewhere, says that the RX-7 is a true sports car. It doesn't put any reference to turbo or non-turbo.

This post made me just about blow up. but i read on and im ok now. ofcourse the N/A is a sports car. like previously stated it is a true sports car which means it has a 50/50 weight distribution. If someone where to say an N/A RX-7 was not a true sports car then they would have to say all hard top RX-7s are not sports cars because in some realms truely true sports cars are convertibles so the only true sports car would be a N/A RX-7 Vert. Way back when there where not Turbos so what was a Ferrari. a sedan? Ill put my N/A up against any Turbo on a track and see who comes out on top. probably the other guy but hey ive never been on a track in my life. Anyways, I love RX-7s 1st, 2nd, 3rd N/A or Turbo and hopefully one day a 4th. I love the true sports car.

It's definately a real sports car. What detracts is that by today's standards it's thrust is perhaps a bit lacking. If anything it's more a pure sports car than anything close to it's class produced today. Are the current gen V6 Mustang or Camero real sports cars? (or any other gen for that matter) A far better arguement. The prelude has better power but is front wheel drive. Should a real sports car have front wheel drive?
To be honest I wasn't big on the N/A until I got my TII. Then I really started enjoying many of the aspects that are common to both.
Here's another question: Is the TII a supercar? No, the phrase supercar refers to cars from about the ferrari F50 and up. High performance race cars that somehow became street legal. (yes I realize Soul Assasin's TII probably qualifies)

Do you have any dyno runs? Your mod list is pretty impessive....
BTW- I used to have a N/A and I believe fully that it is a true sports car... but by todays standards, it's certianly lacking horsepower... as is the TII for that matter.

Yo,
[Rodney Dangerfield Voice]:
We don't get no respect!!
Yep, my NA FC brothers, we're the red headed stepchilds of the RX-7 community. We weren't the first RX-7's, and we weren't the last. We're the middle child, sometimes forgotten. We don't have the old school charm of the SA/FB, or the sexy curves of the FD. Our own turbo bretheren look down on us. Well, I got one thing to say to all the naysayers: BITE ME!
NA FC's are the shiznat. I love my GTUs, and wouldn't trade it for any other RX-7. Look how many FC's are still around, TONS. Gee, why is that? Well, how about bulletproof reliability. 200K before a rebuild? No problem.
The handling, the brakes, and yes, the acceleration. Don't forget my 'Vert brothers, sexy droptops for fun in the sun. The racing history: IMSA GTU Domination in the 80's, 24 Hours of Daytona's GTU Class won TWELVE YEARS in a ROW by NA RX-7's.
Not sports cars? Hmm, two doors, two seats, 50/50 weight distribution, big brakes, rear drive, yep, those FC's sure are great commuter cars. Hello! If they ain't sportscars, what are they? SUV's?!
So brothers, don't despair, just rail those corners, hit those apexes, and throw those flames. /We/ know the joy of 8000+ rpms in a rotary, and FORGET what anyone says.

I think I would give you a damn good run. You have a little bit of a hp advantage, but my car is lighter.
edit...I just noticed youre from Marietta. Are you coming to the dyno day on Jan 19? Ill be there. Maybe we could race while we're there if youre going.

I'm think I will have some fun pissing my TII brethren off w/ this statement- BASE MODEL NA IS MORE A SPORTS CAR THAN A TURBO. Why? What is sports car like about standard power everything and a sunroof like TII has? TII is more a GT (grand touring) car-it is weighted down w/ all the luxuries and then is given more power to make up for it (and then some). I think GTUs is the sportiest U.S. 2nd gen, the JDM Enfini III is sportiest stock 2nd gen ever-2600lbs and turbo power! Mustangs and Camaros? Those are muscle cars as they forsake modern race inspired technology for most horsepower per $$. Just my opinion of what defines a sports car.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be at the dyno day... but I'm not really into street racing. We'll see what kind of numbers you pull.
One other thing, don't get your hopes up on dyno runs... you'll typically be disappointed. My N/A nearly made me sick when it "only" pulled 119rwhp. People get their hopes up on dyno runs... and it just SERIOUSLY sucks to not have the car put out what you were planning on it doing. I learned and went to the dyno wiht my TII with an "Open mind" I decided that as long as it made 190hp or higher I would be happy. Point of the story... shoot low on your dyno expectations to avoid dissappointment. (I'm not saying your car won't put out... just trying to give some advice to avoid that sinking sick feeling that I felt on my first dyno day)
Take care,

"The N/A is too slow and the vert is too heavy and a poser." Sound like arguments you've heard from the FD or general Turbo crowd?
Well, the top end isn't everything! Does anyone argue that old (or even when new) MG's, Triumphs (TR2-7), even the Jaguar XKE aren't sports cars? They are lethargic compared to the TII or the FD. They couldn't even handle as adeptly as an N/A. Would the top end crowd contest those aren't sports cars either?? The N/A runs them into the ground in every category...well, it might have a problem with an XKE, but keep reliability in mind! The turbo's are nice, but give me a N/A Rotary anytime.
Stream of consciousness turned off now!

We all have the same engine, just some have turbos, some don't. Some are convertibles w/ leather and luxury, some are ready for the track straight off the showroom floor.

Take care,
I understand what youre saying about they dyno. Ive seen way too many people expecting good numbers only to come home with disappointment from the numbers being so low. I have a goal I would like to break, but Im not going to be to disappointed if I dont hit it.
