Noisy transmission clutch pedel is out
I was wonder what this could be? When I let the clutch out, I hear a noise from the transmission. When the clutch is pushed in that noise goes away. Any one have any idea what this is, and what I need to replace. I have my engine and trans out right now, so I would like to fix it.

if you go to www.mazdatrix.com there is a troubleshooting guide to help with disecting strange problems like these... My friend had the same problem... but it turned out that it was not the throwout,, it was the tranny just being old.... a replacement was in order...

I dont think it is the throwout bearing. I think that would make a "wirr" sound when the clutch is pushed in. Guess I'll just switch to synthetic.

Correct, not throwout bearing. When clutch is engaged, trans main shaft not turning, so no noise. Conversly, when clutch disengaged, trans gears begin to turn. Depending on amount of noise and mileage, it may be time for a rebuild. Was trans shifting without grinding before it was pulled? If ok, just put synthetic in there and give it a try.

The trans was not giving me a problem besides the noise. It is not loud just annoying. Someone told be it could be the transmission input shaft bearing?

my car does the same thing. while driving or sitting with the clutch out. i changed the fluid with regualr gear oil and it didn't help much (but shifting is smoother). i don't know if it has anything to do with it but when i pulled the drain plug almost 2qts shot straight out of the tranny. got all over everything. i don't know why but somethign caused alot of pressure buildup

Wait a sec then. Mine makes the sound when the pedel is out. Is that the throwout bearing? I would really like to have it be the throwout bearing since I am changing the clutch and putting a new TO bearing on.

Sorry for the incorrect info. If pedal is up, clutch engaged and the throw out bearing is not turning, but the trans is. The only time the throw out bearing turns is when pedal pressed and bearing rides on the pressure plate to remove force on the disc, then the disc and the trans doesn't turn. Must have had a 100 plus transmissions out of cars, and still posted that dumb reply..Must be old age.

I had the same problem. I replaced both the throwout and pilot bearing and it's gone now. But I know for a fact it was the pilot bearing because when i removed it I could feel alot of grinding and squeaking when i tried to move it around. The new one is smooth and makes no noise.

You first remove the front cover, and then the lock ring on the inpup shaft and lock ring on the outer race of bearing. With the clutch pedal out, all parts reciprocating the same speed, no load on pilot brg. Pilot brg will only be turning when clutch pedal pushed down, or disengaged.
At that time the main shaft is idle, and flywheel is turning, therefore pilot brg would be in use.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! This thread is hilarious! Well, whatever the case may be, it's a good idea to replace ALL of your bearings while you're in there. I don't think the pilot bearing=input shaft bearing. The pilot bearing resides in the flywheel. The bearing that mosly likely makes noise in this case (my case too) is on the tranny, holding the input shaft. Does anyone know how much this bearing costs?

First why is this threat so funny Anyway I think if you read it the thread you will find that I or anyone else ever said pilot bearing= input shaft bearing. I was just wonder if there was an easy way to figure out if it was the inputshaft bearing since I was hoping it would not be that one.
