noise on deceleration

i get this "thunk thunk thunk" noise on deceleration.
it goes away when i step on the gas...
it seems to be the loudest if i decelerate and make a slgiht left turn
it makes alot of noise when i am going straight too
it makes less noise when i am turning slight right
it always make the noise... from 10mph to 60mph...

i guess my ring or pinion is dead... huh???

well i just tried it out more
it makes more noise if i just let off the gas, and let the car coast
when i step on the brakes, it is still there
when i apply more pressure to the brakes, it is gone

same thing with gas
if i apply light gas, noise is still there
if i give it more gas, noise is gone...

You have a lot of posts so you probably know what typical driveshaft problems are, but I'll share anyway.

This is the same type of noise I experienced when my driveshaft started going out. I would apply gas and the noise would go away, it wouldnt happen when decelerating etc. The reason why the noises are made at these times related to the load on the driveshaft. When you apply gas the driveshaft is under heavy load and not wanting to flex enough to pop the u-joint while when you're decelerating/coasting the tranny side of the driveshaft is relatively fluid and when the ujoint is bad exceed the noise making klank point.

I drove my car for almost two weeks like this before checking the driveshaft from under the car, turning it manually.

I second the theory of driveshaft.

My friends u-joints were going out on his RX-7 so whenever he shifted it would make this horridly loud "THUNK-THUNK!" sound.

before

before you go swapping a driveshaft check it. jack up rear, tranny in neutral, try turning driveshaft looking for anyway you can add force to it that will make it not move so well.
