No tail lights, no dash lights

Before anyone yells at me, I have checked the FAQ and the archive about this problem, and while there is a lot of information there, I am unclear as to whether my symptoms match everyone else's. Anyway, here's the deal: I have no dash lights nor running lights. My brake lights, hazards, turn signals and headlights work, as do my idiot and dome lights. The "shift up" light even works within the dash, but it is the only one that does.

I have checked the fuses that I would readily suspect to be the problem (illumination, antenna, cigar), and they all check out. I checked to make sure the two wires beneath the shifter (a black one with blue markings, and a green one with red markings, I believe - I'm not sure about the color off the top of my head) were left unattached to anything, and they were as they should be. I had heard before that improper stereo wiring could cause some malfunctions like these, but I've doublechecked all of that and the wiring is fine.

The next suggestion, which sounds most likely to me, is that the dimmer switch is messed up. I have pulled it out and looked at it, and even found an archived post explaining how to fix this part, but I am without a soldering iron at the moment. Before I go soldering away, however, I'd like to see if this sounds like the right plan of action - some people have said that they did this to correct their dash lights when their running lights worked, so I am unsure as to whether this is the same problem. Anyone?

Its a fuse. Car companies alwasy put the running lights and dash lights on the same cicuit so people will know when the running lights go out(even though hardly anyone is aware of this). Just check the fuses more thuroughly.

I bet a search would have revealed this information.

Actually, the rellays that are located on your instrument console probably had a short(you've fried them). Just go to a junk yard get the whole plastic console that goes around the steering wheel, with the switches and rellays of another 7 and replace it.

It should work just fine...

There are no relays used in the parking or dash lights.

Please do not answer if you do not know.

His headlight switch is probably burnt up or he has a blown tail light fuse.

try that first before you do anything else, if it works you'll be happy it did, and if not then do what they said

Thanks guys. I already replaced that same fuse - the illumination fuse - just to be safe. Is there a separate fuse for the tail light somewhere other than in the fuse box down by the clutch pedal? I'm guessing it's the headlight switch. Before I rip it open and start tinkering, it is the one described here, right?

Again, thanks. I'm a visual person, so it helps to see pictures of these things.

my problem sounds similar and i fixed it (well, a friend did) by taking out those 2 metal pieces between the "heater" and "defog" circuit breakers and replacing them...you may just be able to clean off any corrosion on them with some sandpaper though.

if the fuses don't do it, your switch my need to be cleaned/de-corroded or as Icemark said, its burnt. Thankfully he sells rebuilt ones at an affordible price
