No start, wet plugs, & new member questions

I just bought an 87 RX7 FI non-turbo. Thought it was an 88 till I checked the VIN. Does anybody have a web page to RX7 VIN coding?

Anyways I've always liked RX7's but have always driven Acura Legends. I finally got around to getting one. I bought the car for $33 and it needs some TLC. (fender, bumper, taillight, engine won't start)

I drained out all the gas, and now has 94 Octane Shell gas.
I tried to start it and it only cranks over and over again. I've almost got it to start twice now, but then dies off.
I pulled the plugs and they're wet.
I contacted my buddy who's an experienced mechanic and he told me to take the plugs out, pour a little oil in the holes (tough to do), put the plugs back in, crank it over, then take the plugs back out and let it sit overnight.

Now I've got to wait till tomorrow to put the plugs back in and see if it starts.
If it doesn't start, what should I do?
What could be wrong?
The car only has 152,000 miles so it can't be that bad could it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike Diaz

94 octane is useless and will actually reduce the efficiency and power of your engine. try taking the EFI fuse out of the fuse box under the hood. (the one in front of the drivers side strut tower) crank it for 20 seconds with it out, replace it and try again.

make sure all of the electrical plugs around the air filter and intake manifold are in the right place.

buy a haynes

it should start with the method i said, it sounds flooded to me..

welcome to the forum...
sounds like it's a flooding issue....if it doesn't start tomorrow, repeat the process but this time put in some atf fluid instead of just regular engine oil. another thing you could do is check for compression...if the compression is bad, you may need to replace/rebuild the engine...

do a search on compression and atf trick here in the forum, i'm sure you'll find all the info you need...

good luck....

Check the compression also. Its easy to flood a low compression engine.

damn, this is a good forum. I can't get replies like this at www.acura-legend.com, and I'm the administrator there.

BTW, please tell any friends that have Acura Legends about this site.

Thanks guys!

Mike

You probably need to adjust the Trottle Position Sensor (TPS). Do a search for TPS and you will find lots of info. Heres a site that shows you how to adjust it:

Good luck with your car

If you don't have a vaccum leak, it could be a dirty bypass air control valve which sits beside the throttle body on the drivers side. Also, check the timing.
