no pwer steering
I've seen this once before, a friend of mine took off his a/c and smog pump(understandable) and then his power steering pump. Aren't our cars made for cornering. Why in the hell would you do that. I know it will give it slight h/p. But do the benefits outweigh the hassle of no powersteering?

To some its a hassle, to others its not. It lets you feel the road and the pull a tad bit more, but it's also a hell of a lot harder to move it. It's not so hard when you are moving, but when you are stopped, then you feel it. Just take your belt off for a day or so and see how it feels.

I prefer no power steering on cars under like 2800 lbs. Over that and you prety much need it though.
I like to get a good feel for the road without it, and also save some weight and gain a couple hp along with the quicker reving engine it creates.

I'll have a Coke!
Yeah I don't have PS either, and let me tell you I feel more confidant driving w/o PS than in a car with it. Of course, the other car wasn't another RX-7 but I don't think it would matter. Once you are moving the steering is really smooth and you really do feel what the car wants to do. My only problem about not having PS is parallel parking, that's a real bitch.

no power steering, and i must say it's wonderful
it really does let you feel the road
i was driving through the mountains this one morning after it rained, and i took it much slower than usual, but after this one turn, i knew something was wrong
my steering for VERY light, and i quickly corrected my problem
if i had been driving a power steering vehicle, i probably wouldnt've noticed that something was wrong until my car was sideways

having no power steering is the bestest thing that ever happened to my 91!!!!!!!!!... for a few reasons.. more room around engine bay.. get to plugs easier!!! . power steering line was leaking anyway.. slight h/p increase... i felt it right away on acceleration... and on the cornering.. itsa beautiful thing.. like xiaoming said.. it corrects the problem before it starts..... u can feel the back end sliding before it does it and u can correct it quicker than u could with power steering because with power steering it use to 180 on the hair pin turns...with the power steering u can feel the rear end sliding.. and quickly countersteer... well thats just how i feel.... maybe some people have different feelings or responses...

RX-7's with power steering feel like big Caddy's
Warning: my P/S pump exploded in my 86 Sport one time when I had it around 8000rpm. If you are planning on running high rpms get an underdrive pulley or take it off!

yeah im going to agree, no p/s is the way to go. its so much better than cars with p/s. cars with p/s are so touchy and the slightest move moves the car and i hate that.

I have to agree with the others; my TII has the R+P streering and is wonderful!!! But my GXL has the PS and is good for getting around town, and especially into and around parking lots... But overall, I prefer to be without it

i honestly cant tell which one i like better. first off i drove a '88 tercel with normal non-power steering for about 2 years. when i got my rx7 it felt weird to drive with power steering then i got used to it. then my powersteering belt went out and i had to drive all over town with no power steering and it felt real weird and overly stiff. then i got a new belt and the steering wheel was like butta'. but it felt too loose. then i drove my friends subaru last night with really loose power steering and drove my car later and now it feels like (to me at least) the steering on my old tercel, as in i can feel the road but the steering wheel doesnt fight me anymore. so i really cant tell which one i like better now.
anyway sorry to ramble on but i think i like my steering with power(at least on this car)
