NO POWER!!!?!?!! starter change

hey i changed my starter today and now the car doesn't have any power! the only thing that has changed was i moved the ground ring from between the tranny and the starter and put it just oin the starter. would this cause a no power condition???

also i checked all fuses they are good.

thanks for the help guys

You have to have a grounded block. Running it through the starter won't give you enough continuety. Put that main grounding strap back to the block, and you'll be just fine.

can you give a little more detail on how this works? im trying to track down a power loss after converting to a turbo tranny. this required a new starter, so this may be a lead to a solution. what am i looking for???

well, so then this would make it so i have absolutely no power then since it's an open circuit. great ok one more question when i did have it on there correctly it wouldn't start very well it would just click and not even try realy i'm pretty sure it's the battery cables but, i want to comfirm this.

thanks

Clean all of the connectors on the starter. Also make sure that the mating metal surfaces between the starter and the block are clean. Once all the connectiona have been cleaned, make sure that you have a really good connection on the small wire in the middle. This is the trigger wire, and the starter won't work without it. If all this still doesn't work, then inspect that cable.

HuggyBear: A bad engine ground is a hugely overlooked problem. Make sure that the main ground strap is bolted securely to the block. Not to the starter/ body/ anything else first. Is the car hard to start? If you have a good OHM meter, then you can check the impedence between the negative battery terminal and the block while the car is stationary / cranking / idling. Once you have those readings, take a set of jumper cables, and attatch one end to the neg battery terminal, and the other to the block. Take the readings and compare themto the originals. Good Luck,

Nick

The oil pressure sending unit is on the driver's side of the engine, just under the oil filter. It looks like a mushroom on its side. There is a little round nipple in the middle of it. A white rectangular clip slides onto it sideways - the clip comes off easily. I believe that the wire is red/yellow, but don't quote me. If you slide that wire back on, you'll be back to having quasi-relyable oil pressure readings again!

well it still isn't working(no power) after the new cables and changing of the ground back to between the tranny and the starter. so i'm taking it in to my mechanic i suspect it has something to do with the alarm the previous owner had installed it's run b4 the ecu and if you unplug it the whole car goes dead?? i checked all the wires it's still ok so i'm stumped i'll see what the mechanic says and then fix it.

thanks
james
