no boost
Just bought my first RX-7 its an 87 turboII and I got it for $800 bucks.
The car runs very good at idle and low speeds. I started to step on it and was surprised that there was no power I realized the guage was reading no boost and I couldnt hear it spooling or anything. If anyone can at least point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. I've been working on cars all my life so I know how to turn a wrench but this is my first rotary let alone my first turbo car and I dont want to mess anything up. Thanks

check your wastegate thats its closed properly
check for vacuum leaks
check the air intake duct that goes down to the turbo from the intake, if it has any cracks
and lastly check that all your throttle plates are opening fully (secondaries)

Also you might check and see if the ECU is throwing any Error codes.. You can do this by following these instructions:
http://www.fc3spro.com/TECH/HOWTO/ZERROR/zerror.html
Also if you're new to the rotary world then welcome, and check out the www.fc3spro.com website along with another one I found useful when I had no clue as to what I was doing (I still new as well, but I think I have a much better grasp on things after reading up on these sites.)
http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/
is another great resource to have.
Definately make sure the vac line from your pressure sensor to your TB is still connected. This is what effects the boost gauge. I know you didn't hear any noises but somtimes it can be quiet too. If that vac line is not there/not hooked up/cracked. Whatever it will cause the car not to get the extra fuel it needs when the turbo is in use. (Which will be VERY BAD for the engine, its causing a lean condition.)
So definately keep your foot out of it until you can get at least SOME reading on your boost gauge. My guess is if you don't see any movement on the gauge its the either:
1. Pressure sensor is not hooked up or is bad. (Error code checker will show pressure code )
2. Soldering points on the back of the dash gauge cluster took a crap. (Not very likely)
3. Huge vacuum leak. This could cause all sorts of funny problems especially with a turbo car like this one.
I highly sugest checking for error codes first. It might lead you exactly to your problem. Without guessing.![Wink](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Good luck.

yup, sounds liek a vacuum leak. I had this problem when i first got my 7. It would hardly build any boost. Changed out the entire vacuum line system. Now i boost just fine and fixed all my wierd idling and stalling out problems.
Also, check your turbo's shaft play. it may be a little excessive and preventing the turbo from spooling up properly.

How do I check if my secondaries are opening?? Also is there a place to buy another engine from? I was thinking after I get this car to run right I will buy another engine and freshen it up. And is there any kind of engine swap for this car, I do want to keep a rotary in it though.

there is an engine swap for this car, its called a 20B and it has 3 rotors
but its not necessary unless you want like 500 HP...
Secondaries... you should be able to hear it... you figured out where the fuel rail is, right? and the secondaries are the top injectors.
