newbie to be

im about to ****** up an 86 gxl or gl , cant remember from my landlord where my mom lives . the car has 112000 miles on it and has no power windows or locks. i think it has ac but im not sure.

anyway he wants 900 bux for it.

it gonna need some new mugglers so i know im gonna spend a few bux in that . but anyway here are my questions

how much power gain should i expect with a full exhaust and intake on that car? i currently have an 85 nissan 300zx turbo that im sellnig and im wondering if itll be as fas on the highway. i spend most of my time ont eh open highway going to and from work at about 75 plus mph for lke a half hour straight. can a rotary stand those kind of speeds for an extended amoutbn of time?

when doing the exhaust , should i take out the cats?

will it give me any more extra power?

anyone here from nyc know of any good rotary mechanics in the bronx or manhattan that does work on rotaries for a decent price?

thanx all in advance

romeo,

Hey most of those questions are in the archive section of this forum. You'll find some very indepth posts if you'll do a search for "gutting" "exhaust", etc...

Exhaust (downpipe, performance cat, catback exhaust) & intake (OEM airbox removal, cold air box, headlight cover air intake, cone filter) will net 15-20HP if you get the ones designed for the car.

Also check out the profiles of other NA owners to see the power mods they've done.

Here's a "welcome" package for you:

Hey welcome to the forum.

The best thing about the rx-7s is the car is 100% designed as a TRUE sports car - not a "sports coupe" or "sports sendan."

The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR and is the tuners DREAM CAR. Mazda designed the car with 450HP in mind but detuned to 200/180 ft-lbs torque. What that means is you can GO NUTS designing a porsche killer for little $$$.

The rotary engine is PERFECT for a sports car. Mazda designed the rx-7 to take 130% advantage of it. That means you get lightweight HIGH OUTPUT performance, UNLIMITED REVING (there's nothing to break), small engine means sweet aerodynamics = low drag. Handlign is the BEST part of the rotary experience. The chassis has rear steer like some porsches, so you can kick some serious butt around the corners. The car handles & drives so well - it inspires you to push the car beyond what you think it's capable of

Best of all, the rx-7s have an international following from tuners, manufacturers, and enthusiest. That means you have a wide selection of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, coffeytable books, toy models, and knowlegable people.
