new shifter bushings-lube?

hello all,

Just wondering if its common practice to put lube on the plastic shifter bushings and wave washers {manual trans} ?

there are 2 bushings and two wave washers, and they slip around the end ball of shifter that sticks into the trans. anyone who has replaced these knows the procedure.

I cant find anything in the fsm's on it. anyone have any info ?

thanks all

You're in luck, Mazdatrix has a great step-by-step DIY guide with pics:

When I did mine absolutely nothing remained of the old bushings or springs. Nothing came out in the tranny fluid either. Just dissolved? (Not much on the magnetic plug either...)

Yeah the mazdatrix site has a detailed step by step guide-youre right

When I removed mine I also had no bushings left, none. absolutely no trace, I only had remnants of the two wave washers. The car has only 74,000 miles on the trans.

Thanks

The bushings are nylon and need no lube.
There is supposed to be gearoil in the shifter housing though.

These must be what RX-7 gremlins eat for sustenance.

Sure feels good to have a tight shift gate again. (That doesn't sound good...)

Have you done the fluid? After the full bushing kit, the synthetic Redline MT-90 helped my tranny feel like new, (83K).
