New RX 7 Owner
Hi Folks
Just recently picked up an 86 RX 7, know less than nothing about them.
It's unmolested, with an original 47,xxx miles.
It's white with red int, automatic, sunroof, backseat folds down, 4 lug.
Body is in pretty good shape, small scrape on passenger side door.
Interior is clean.
No other plans for it except to drive it, which means no upgrades or modifications.
I'll get some pics of her in the next couple days.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
texFCturboII, I did skim thru the FAQ section, tons of info, I'll do a full shake down on the car before I start driving it. I'll probally do the 60,000 miles on it, all the fluids, belts, hoses, and what nots, and a couple of other points I saw in the FAQ section.
I've done a cursory rust inspection, and the only rust I've found so far is in the gas tank. But the FAQ section does tell the key areas to check out, but I believe this is pretty much a rust free Cal car.

well make sure you check the fluids often, change the oil every 3K miles and it will be good to you. a 2+2 virgin FC is hard to find but you should look into getting a nice exhaust system to free up some ponies and help with heat expulsion.
If you eventually see a transmission problem then upgrade to a 5spd. tranny and work on the suspension so it handles better. Looks like you're set though. Enjoy and please post pics when you can.

Here are some quick pics, next week I should have the replacement tank & pump cage.
I'll then pull it out and wash & wax it, Then do a better pic shoot.

Hi Folks. Update
Got the tank in, put in the pump and cage I bought, but pump turned out to be bad, ordered a new one and put it in, and she fired right up.
Had her smogged, registered and insured. The smog guy couldn't believe how low the emissions were.
What kinda of milage do you think this thing will get ?

where in so cal are you? I once ran into an old guy that had a low mileage white FC with burgundy interior. It was also an automatic and a 4 lug. I ran into this guy in Pomona while putting gas in my RX-7. His car looked very similar to yours. The car looks clean. Hope you enjoy the car

That one is a 4 post, but at the price, I'll have to stay a freeloader, jack stands are what I can afford and have used for years.
I'm in OC, the only time I go to Pomona, is for the Swap meet, and I've haven't put very many miles on her yet. The car sat for so long, one tire I had to replace, but was hoping to get away without having to replace the other 3, but the flat spots from sitting for 3 years are to bad, and the tires were new. And it's getting close to Xmas.

You'll find a lot of the low mileage original sports cars out there are automatics.
They are usually good deals also since everyone want's a stick including me but I'm tempted when I see them.
My buddy just picked up a extremely nice '83 280ZX automatic with 92,000 miles, all original, a little rust starting, $1500.

I'm not sure what kind of mileage you can get with the auto. My first 7 was an 86 N/A with a 5 speed and all I did was put manifold back exhaust and built a high flow intake for it, and I was able to get almost 35 MPG on the highway. Welcome to the club.

Thats the first I've ever heard of anyone getting 35mpg. I would expect more like 20-25 and thats better than many of us are getting.

Happy New Year Everyone
I was forced to start driving the RX7, throw out bearing went out on my daily driver, and decided to to pull my motor to also do a cam swap.
I'm getting 22 to 24 mpg, thought I would get a little more ?
Steering seems a little tight, but the suspension seems loose, it is 4 lug suspension with 14" tires which may have something to do with it.
I let some one look at it who's into Mazdas, and he wanted to buy it on the spot, he couldn't believe how clean it was.
So it's sold, as soon as I get my car back together. He has a Turbo motor & exhaust, 5 speed, 5 lug suspension & wheels, waiting on the car. So it will get the upgrades, just not by me.
Some of the money will go to a Turbo build for my car though.
