I've just decided to beef up my suspension on my 240sx and keep the motor stock until the upcoming summer. Maybe then I'll decide whether to swap in the det or turbo the ka. The ca18det may be a good choice.

Turbo II - $2,000
T04 turbo - $1,000
HKS manifold - $300
FMIC - $1,000
Miscellaneous - $500
Exhaust - $1,000
Fuel - $500
11-second (mid 11's) 1/4-miles times all day

240SX - you got the car already
SR20DET - $3,000
Stock Silvia ECU/wairing harness - $500
T25/T28 turbo - $800
FMIC - $1,000
This might break 11's on a good day - limited to about 350hp.

240SX - you got the car already
Turbonetics turbo exhaust manifold - $700
Turbo (T3?) - $700
FMIC - $1,000
(Stand-alone - $1,000?)
Miscellaneous - $500
This might break 11's on a good day - limited to about 350hp.

Of course, there are more powerful KA24 turbos out there, but it's going to cost you more to play with those guys.&nbsp Same with the SR20DET swap...you can pay for a top-line GT2835 ball-bearing turbo, cause that's the only way to make big power with the stock turbo exhaust manifold.

Hmm...I was only aware of the Turbonetics manifold.
Are you one some 240SX lists or forums like this one?&nbsp They could give you a better picture.&nbsp I've been only messing around with the 240SX's for a short while (less than a year), so my experience with them is very limited at this point.

With any set-up, I usually ask how much power you want and work backwards.&nbsp You're going to need more fuel, period.&nbsp Running larger fuel injectors usually means stand-alone ECU's, which I think is way over your head at this stage.&nbsp I don't know what the rest of the turbo KA24 guys do for engine control under boost, since I'm pretty sure the stock computer would barf from the positive pressure - rising rate fuel pressure regulator perhaps?&nbsp You can get away with "cheap" T3's since a large number of production cars use them - turbo Saabs is one example you might want to find in a junkyard to grab the turbo for cheap.&nbsp The exhaust and intercooler piping needs to be custom done.&nbsp You'll need to get the exhaust welded - no way around it.&nbsp IC piping can be done with straight sections and silicone hose bends.

Thanks for the info Ted, some 240sx people are claiming to have some used turbo kits they put together themselves for about a grand, but are only running 5 pounds of boost. I'll have to check that out.

Be careful when anyone asks that kinda money for a turbo they put together themselves.&nbsp At the very least, check out http://www.turbochargers.com/ for some really nicely priced turbos!

Yeah, if they are running under 7psi, they are probably not running an intercooler; this makes it a whole lot cheaper and simplier to install a turbo.

Yeah, I'm thinking of putting together one of those used turbo kits and only run that much amount of boost. I'd get an intercooler when I'll upgrade the turbo and fuel system.

and plus it hasn't been done ALL that much the swap that is. i also wanted to throw on a silvia front. those damn cars have always grew on me.

i would go with a sr swap ....sorry guys

Talking

240sx's are now running cheap for about a min. of $1000. But if you could find a total det swap for $2500, that's pretty good. My friend bought a det motor and tranny for 2900, but needed to buy so many other stuff and ran out of funds and decided to scrap the project. Many of the people who have done the cheapest swaps say that they spent a minimum of $4000. But if you have hookups, let me know!

There's sooooo much crap you need to buy for det swap even though you have the complete motor and tranny.

I think you might have to get a turboII drive train also. Ive heard that non turbo drivetrains cant hold more than 250hp. On another note dont buy the hood, just get a front mounted intercooler and start big.
I am also thinking about doing this conversion to an 1988 rx7 na. I wanted to know if I cant get a 1991 TII to work in it??
I think the motor, ecu, and tranny is $1000 off the internet with 30k on it. I was wondering how hard it will be to that motor in a n/a?? Will it be a lot of money, if so how much.
I am getting a settlement within the next month for about 20-30k from a car accident i had.
And I cant afford a TII car on insurrance so I wanted to do the swap.
Can you help me out??

if you want fast and cheap go with an eclipse turbo fwd or awd for the price of the car and first round of mods being around 1200 you'll hit 13's with awd and low 14's w/fwd you can prob. pick a good 1g awd up for aroung 2-4000 just make sure to take it to a mechanic that has experience with them to check it out and always get a 1g over a 2g better heads and bigger turbo, and if possible awd you'll be much happyer, although not as much support like this forum. but alot of info anyway.
