MO New To Rotary and Need to Rebuild

I just bought my first RX7 ever and completely love the car. I have a 91' Vert N/A 5 speed. I bought the car from a junkyard for $350. Towed the car home and all the guy said the car needed was a fuel pump. Which that was it and the car ran. So to the point, I started the car a couple days ago and a huge cloud of white smoke came out of the exhaust. I figure its the coolant seal. Well if that the only thing wrong i still want to rebuild the engine. So i need an idea of what i would need and the cheapest way i can rebuild the engine.

Atkins rotary. If you blew your coolant seal, you may need new irons.

Check out rebuild kits, here are a few website that might help you out on your rebuild as far as parts wise, you can look in the vendor section for more. If you are willing to throw some money in it, you can buy a jdm turbo 2 engine and tranny and do a turbo vert, it will drop right in. you can search a thread I started on this topic recently.

As far as the rebuild, if you search the forums there is alot of documentation on this, get an fsm for your car also. You might as well port the engine if you are comfortable with doing that, a few of the websites listed have the templates for it, all you need to do is grind the ports following the template. Depending on how bad things are once you open it up, you will see what you do and don't need to replace, you can also ask around here and plenty of people will help you out.

Sorry to hear about that your engine blowing on your first 7. I have the same vert as you and its a great car. This probably happened due to the engine sitting so long. Hope this helps out.

I rebuilt my first motor for less than a grand. You just gotta know where to look for parts. There was a thread on here for where to get the cheapest rebuild parts.

Yeah... do some thinking now on whether you want to go turbo... probably not as fun to look back on a finished n/a build and wish you'd gone turbo..... But then again, boost isn't for everyone.
