New problem has occured .....

Okay guys,

I kinda assumed my tranny needed to be lube'd again. That *MIGHT* be it, but now talking to gurus here in town and my brother, we currently are thinking it's not the fluid, but a transmission rebuilt.

Okay.. so, that's fine with me. I'm driving out to Ft Walton Beach and my car starts to make a hissing noise. I'm like WTF? It just won't go away. I am also noticing I'm losing alot of power between it too.

Now....how abouts do I find this leak? or better yet, is it a manifold gasket leak? Where do I trace this first, to figure out where it is?

I also noticed, that when I was rev'ing up the engine, and looking under the hood, the big hose, type thing next to the 02 sensor (Isn't that the Knock Sensor?) it was rattling badly.... I am not sure if that is normal or not, but I thought I would point that out.

Much help is great! Whether or not, I'm still gonna put the Valvoline Gear Oil in my car.... seen as I can't get access to Redline or Royal Purple without a two-day wait, and I h ave to have it before Sunday.

Ok NA's doesn't have a knock sensor. I believe you are talking about the split air hose, it supplies air to the cat. Do you still have the cat on?

If there's a oil leak, you would see it. Look for oil leaks under the car........

Can you pin point the noise on the tranny, if so look here:

I really don't know about a air leak, maybe somebody else can help.

IMHO, I wouldn't use redline at this point.

Nothing wrong with Redline, I use it in my race car.

Does it hiss at idle? You're going to have to try and pinpoint the source of the hissing, it could be anything. Take a close look around everything.. Is there any fluid leaking, hoses blown off, cut vacuum lines, etc.

update: as I told the FL list:

Hey guys,

To come to a conclusion, I couldn't drive my car but 40mph last night. It would over heat like mad, and hiss like mad. I had to make about 6 trip stops before I *actually* got home. It got worse by the min.

My mom took it to *our* mech. and he said he couldn't fix it, so we had to go to a muffler shop. $200 bucks to fix it! That ain't cheap . They also told me I can not run the card "hard" until they figure out that was the problem with the cats. They're not even sure it was....

Just wanted to let you guys know what was up. Thanks to Brandon Matthews for talking to me along the way, and helping me out, oh, and calming me down

But yeah. I'll give more updates once I'm able to get the car back.

Where is the hiss coming from? Start the car and stick your head under the hood to listen for it.

Are you saying that it's also overheating as well? When does it overheat? Highway or city?

Hissing was coming from the back of the engine - to or near the cats. I don't have my car. Its still at the shop, to my knowledge anyway.

It was overheating in the city. I couldn't drive the car but every like 3 miles, before it got ½ way up, almost ¾ up.

could be the heater hose... my vert had hissing sound near the back of the engine and one night my car kept overheating without even going beyond 2 miles... got that fixed for about 65 dollars... I don't know, could be worse.

The hissing sounds like an exhaust leak...just replace the gasket (probably manifold-cat). Find the leaking gasket by starting the car cold, then running your hand along the exhaust joints. You will be able to feel the gasses leaking out. Be careful, because it'll get hot fast. May also be a cracked manifold.

As far as your overheating, how loose is the fan clutch? Sounds to me like the fan is not spinning well enough to pull air through the rad...or the rad is clogged.

It might be a clooged cat, hence blowing the gasket and causing the overheating problem too........

It is just a WILD guess.

Well, it WAS a clogged cat. My cats have been clogged for sometime now. The muffler shop replaced the cat, with a new one - since that my car is running fine... and no overheating.

So.. I'm still gonna look into it this week...I'm not sure what else is wrong...

I'll keep you guys updated. Sorry for not explaining it as well as I could....

Do NOT and I repeat DO NOT, use that cat for a very long time. Most cat outhere can't whistand the heat from the 13B!!

The car is running fine, and it is not overheating, what else is wrong with the car?

Well, I'm trying to tell my father that I am either gonna replace the cats with a high flow, or go with a straight pipe... as he won't let me gut them because that's illegal...

I heard that they can't stand the heat from our cars, so I understand that.

The car is running fine, and it is not overheating, what else is wrong with the car?
Well, I'm not sure..... I can't do anything now until Monday.... *shrugs*
