New member with a question for anyone
Hi, I am a new member of this forum. I have two cars, a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege and a 1989 RX7 GXL. This is my first rotary powered car. My question is the following:
1- What is the best road map to convert my 1989 RX7 to a street race car.
My idea: 1- Street Port it. 2- Turbo or Supercharger and 3- The usual, exhaust, intake, etc. Is this a good plan? am I totally lost with this plan?
Is there an area on this forum where I can find some sort of road map to turn a second generation RX7 non turbo like mine to a race car?
Thank you in advance for your help.

its not incredibly easy to just turn it into a turbo car. check the FAQ for FC thread at the top of the page for "turbo'ing an n/a" links.
you may find it easier and cheaper to sell it and buy a turbo2.

Also check the archive.... It doesn't take long to find threads on this very question.....
At the end of one of them ryan gives a standard modding order
Very useful stuff in the archives

Thankyou for the help, I will check the archives, I like Turbo Technology better than having a blower anyways. What do you think is the most HP you can get out of a non-turbo second generation RX7?

Yes, do a full tune-up before you mod anything. It's a lot easier to fix everything before mods than after.
Once that's done the first thing you need is intake/exhaust. That will free up the most power, and no other mod will be worth a damn without a free-flowing exhaust.
Beyond that...I would say porting, maybe turbo/supercharging it, removing stuff like AC and Power steering for parasitic HP loss, dropping some weight from the exhaust...
Personally, I'm building my car to be a beefy NA. If you really want turbo, many people find it easier and cheaper just to get a turbo car than to do a NA-Turbo conversion.

Yes you right, it makes sense, I have heard that before. I would really like to get a 3rd Generation RX7, but I don't feel like dropping 15K for a second car/project car. Thanks for the advice.
