New HP numbers
Hey all, the SE-RX7 club had another dyno day today and I found 10 more hp and 5 lbs of torque, bringing my total rear wheel Hp numbers to 161.6 and 127.4!! That is up from 152Hp and 122.5lbs/ft torque.
It is a nice steady climb from 50Hp at 2600rpm and levels off at about 160 from 6500 to 7500, peaking at about 7200. Torque climbs from 90lbs/ft at 2500 to a peak of 127.4 at 4500, then levels off at 120-125 from 5000 till 7000 and drops to 110 at 7500rpm. Nice flat torque curves!
My modifications include K&N air filter, TB Mod, 89+ Intake manifolds, 86 motor, 6port sleeves removed, RB Headers, Midpipe, HKS catback, and an electric air pump. Not too shabby.
All motor, no porting what so ever.

I think you could get 10 hp and a little more rpm's out of a ported manifold. Do a search for info and pics. Me and PP13bnos posted quite a bit about it.

No more RPMs available. RevLimit is 7800. From the looks of things, it wouldn't do me any good. My power band is 5000 to revlimit and the transmission and light flywheel will keep me there.
I thought about porting the manifold, but decided against it. I didn't have time and wasn't too sure if it would really work. I know you say it will, but I just don't see that much power out if it.
BTW- I am still running the PS, A/C, and the OEM fan. That is probably robbing some HP.

Actually your considering 185 would be slightly less than 15 percent drivetrain loss...I would consider him to be 190 but I think our cars are more in the range of 17 percent loss. The 2nd gen was dynoed at 160 hp tops perfect condition from the factory. 125hp even at the wheels according to RX7.com and another site I have seen. If u divid 160 by 125 u get 18 percent. But lets just say 17 loss in this case... The total would come out to 189 flyweel hp... I know u can get 10 hp with racing sleeves and porting manifold mazdaspeed7 style. He will back me up too for he has done this.

You guys seem to inflate numbers a bit. I bet you get maybe 2 hp from porting the intake manifold. Probably even lose some through the middle. We need dyno numbers before you can state what kind of gain you get. The butt dyno is affected by the new mod syndrome. I know the Pineapple sleeves were tested to gain hp, but not the ported manifold yet.

In other words, if you have 35hp worth of parasitic drag on a 160bhp motor (21% loss), wouldn't you still have 35hp lost if you bolted a 225bhp motor into that same car? That would work out to a 15% loss.
I'm not an engineer, so I could be way off base here.

You're mostly right - at very high HP levels it works like a percentage to a point, and then starts to level off. The high-hp Supra and Viper guys have all begun to realize this. For our anemic little cars, though, it's not really a consideration. Per cent loss is where it's at

Now many of you people who say porting the intake manifold will only add 2 hp have EVER done it?? Go look at Pual Yaws site. I dont remember the exact numbers, but I think porting the manifold gained as much as 30% more flow, and like 10% more power.(I could be wrong on the exact numbers, but its in his site).
If you have NO experience with something, how can you say what it can and cant do. If any of you have ever briven a n/a with a well ported intake manifold or have dyno charts of before and after, then I would like to hear your opinions. But that isnt the case.
