New here... just have a question

I have an 86 GXL. Want to turbo it and was wondering if there was a difference between 86-92. I've been seaching around for a manifold and they all say 87 and up. I know that the 2mm seals is has wont be able to handle alot of boost. I plan on rebuilding the motor... again... to handle more boost next year. I have the resources fo build the rest just wondering if there is a difference on the manidfold. Thanks.

Stock 2mm seals can handle a good amount of power. It all comes down to tuning. Are you looking at stock RX-7 manifolds or aftermarket manifolds? If youre looking at stock Mazda ones, 87-88 manifolds are different from 89-92 manifolds. The turbos are also different between series 4 (87-88) and series 5 (89-92) RX-7s. Aftermarket manifolds fit all RX-7s.

2mm seals dont hold any better than 3mm seals, 3mm seals are for worn housings IIRC.

3mm seals are used when the seal slots in the rotor are no longer within spec for 2mm seals. The groove gets machined to accept 3mm seals after that. Which is better between these two? Thats a touchy subject but without proper tuning, both can be just as shitty or just as good. Do a search and you'll find many discussions on this subject.
