New engine rough idle 89 convert
My 89 convertible has a new engine built by a reputable tech in the northwest, where I live. It was running fine, and smooth, but would not turn faster than 6000 rpm where it lost the power to go faster.
I replaced the fuel pump, and had a devil of a time getting it started, but a full can of starter fluid and it finally ran on its own... but very roughly. I believe it is flooding or running rich.
If it sits for a few days, it will start on its own, like the fuel has evaporated. If it runs and I try to start the next day, it wont go unless it has a little starter fluid. Either way, it runs rough, like its missing. Sometimes when I restart it, it pops in the pipes.
It also idles ok around 1200 rpm when cold, but when warmed up or the gas pedal is pushed, it sputters again. The signs dont seem to indicate it is having trouble getting fuel, but that it is getting too much. Any ideas on what to try or look for? I am beyond stumped. TIA! (Mp3 attached)
