And a couple of reasons are: The timing maps and fuel maps are different. The turbo uses a Knock Sensor to detect......knock, and on a 87/88 that sensor has a input thru a ,........Knock Control box.
That said, and this shouldn't be said, you can get the turbo engine to run using a n/a ECU, without much difficulty. But definetly not advisable for the long haul.
And a turboii boost/pressure sensor should also be used with the turboii ECU.
And you''ll need a driveshaft to fit the n/a rear end, unless you use the n/a transmission which would mean that you would have to swap the flywheels and counter weights b/t engines.
And I took it to mean you were putting a turbo engine in a n/a but you could have meant put a turbo on a n/a. I don't know. Got me.
SEARCH for the name KABOOSKI, and a article authored by KABOOSKI and concerning the n/a to turbo conversion. About a year plus old post.
