Cool New to the board and looking at getting a 2nd gen.

Well I need a good daily driver and it cant cost that much ($4,000 is my limit) and so I figured I would look into getting a Turbo II or a N/A 2nd gen. I really would rather have the turbo though. About how much could I get a good one that needs no extra help to keep it running and where should I look? I would rather have the 1990 (new body style) too.

It'd be about 4-5 grand for a nice 89-91 TII.

SVTsnake,

Hey welcome to forum.

Another choice you may love is the NA convertible. Your local autotrader magazine and www.autotrader.com usually have a good selection. www.ebay.com and www.thepartstrader.com are other places to keep looking.

$4000 will get you a prestine NA, a good-fair convertible, and a good-fair Turbo II.

Any other questions ??

Here's a "welcome" package for you:

Hey welcome to the forum.

The best thing about the rx-7s is the car is 100% designed as a TRUE sports car - not a

"sports coupe" or "sports sendan."

The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR and is the tuners DREAM CAR. Mazda designed the car with 450HP in mind but detuned to 200/180 ft-lbs torque. What that means is you can GO NUTS designing a porsche killer for little $$$.

The rotary engine is PERFECT for a sports car. Mazda designed the rx-7 to take 130% advantage of it. That means you get lightweight HIGH OUTPUT performance, UNLIMITED REVING (there's nothing to break), small engine means sweet aerodynamics = low drag. Handlign is the BEST part of the rotary experience. The chassis has rear steer like some porsches, so you can kick some serious butt around the corners. The car handles & drives so well - it inspires you to push the car beyond what you think it's capable of

Best of all, the rx-7s have an international following from tuners, manufacturers, and enthusiest. That means you have a wide selection of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, coffeytable books, toy models, and knowlegable people.

Daily driver = NA or NA vert

I recommend making your COBRA the daily driver and getting a T2 though!

Nah, the Cobra is the weekend car. My dad is getting a 2003 Cobra in 2 weeks and he is getting a daily driver too (I think SUV). But I have wanted a 2nd gen RX7 for a while so this is the perfect time to get one. Why do you guys say that N/A would be a good idea for daily driver?

Haha... MANY less parts to go bad/have to fix... etc etc. Turbos generate LOTS of engine bay heat, causing wires/hoses to go bad much faster than an N/A.. esp. in the daily commute.

The NAs have better throttle responce & more torque at 500-2500 rpms. Thus they are a bit easier to drive in rushhour traffic.

The TII can be as reliable, but need a bit more maintenance and TLC
