![Question](https://www.rx7club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi there. This is for a friend of mine. I did a search but couldn't really find anything exactly like what is happening.
We put a new battery and alternator in, and now when we start the car it continually revs between 1500 rpms and 4000 rpms. It didn't do this before. Does the TPS need to be adjusted, or does something need to be reset??? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Ok, you are now getting more voltage through the TPS and to the ECU- changing the absolute signal from it.
The ECU is used to the sensor inputs being powered from your old batt/alt, but now the voltages will be a little higher (since most sensor use resistance to modulate the signal), now the voltages will be a little higher at the ECU harness, and the ECU is a little confused.
It does have voltage compensation built in, but only to modulate injector pulsewidth.
You definately have to readjust the TPS- but follow this procedure.
Unhook the battery (- or +) for about 1 min, and hit the brake a few times.
Hook it back up- and turn the ignition on (Don't start it!!)
Adjust the TPS properly, then you can start the car and I guarantee it'll be fine!

Do a search on it- you need to hook a pair of test lights up to a connector, and then adjust a screw on to of the arm of the TPS until ONE of the lights are on. Don't have any more time to go into it- do a search, or look in a regular service manual.
OR, scrape a bit of rubber off of the green wire with red strip (I THINK, Not sure though), and get voltage off of it with ignition on and car WARMED UP!!- should be 1V exactly. Need digital voltmeter)
Adjust the screw to get 1V accordingly.

Here's a website that tells you how to do this.
http://home.rmci.net/panther/tps.htm
Would that work for me too? I tried adjusting it without the lamp but it has no effect.
Maybe I should disconnect the battery like you said above?
