New 88 rx7 project

So I am new to the rotary world but I've always wanted to get into it. I found a 88 non turbo rx7 for $800 and I was need of a car. The only thing i know that is new and nice on it that was there when i bought was a new and shiny KNN intake and a dynaflow exhaust. After looking it over more after getting home i realized he had all leading spark plugs in the motor, I immediately replaced them with new NGK plugs. But now that its running a ton better i was looking for some tips on getting started or any good online stores or places to buy upgrades for the engine, exterior, and interior. Any advice is appreciated.

Begin by carefully reading the FAQ at the top of this section. There is a wealth of information there and will give you some ideas about topics you'd like to learn more about. Then start searching the forum! You could spend days reading old discussions and will learn a tremendous amount about your car that way.

If you don't already have the Factory Shop Manual (FSM), there are links in the FAQ for downloading it. This is a must. Many (including me) also find the Haynes manual for the FC very helpful. You can probably find one locally or get one on eBay for $10 or so.

Before attempting any modifications, make sure all the regular maintenance is current on your car. It is good that you took care of your spark plugs, but you'll also want to change your coolant and thermostat, replace transmission and differential oil, replace hydraulic fluid (brake and clutch), and replace your belts if you don't know how old they are. Take a good look at all your hoses and replace any that look suspect. It is a good idea to replace your heater hoses, particularly the longest one on the driver's side of the engine because they are prone to failure. Check the oil cooler hoses for leaks and replace if necessary. Inspect your pulsation damper (another great topic to search and read about) and replace it if there is any sign of leakage or if you think the one on your car is original. Check condition of wheel bearings, brakes, etc., etc... With a car this age, the list can get pretty long, but you'll be much better off making sure everything is in good working condition before trying to throw modifications into the mix.

Welcome to the rotary community!
