neutral switch

I had a look under the neath the transmission and found the neutral switch connector (white w/ two wires going on top of the transmission under neath the shifter) dangling under neath. My question is, where is this connector suppose to be connected. I been looking at the hayne's manual and it somehow states that the neutral switch plays a role with the ECU. Crossing my fingers, hopefully this would solve my start up problem. Everytime I start the car, I have to hold on to the clutch until it is partially warm up or else the engine will die (another way is I rev the car once I see the rev going down and then it should hold idle). I have check everything I could think of but nothing seems to point me in the right direction.

So, if maybe someone can tell me where this connector should be connected, it will be greatly appreciated.

Car: 1988 SE

Thanks!!

I'm pretty sure the overdrive sw is the fifth gear switch by another name.
I know it effects the split air solenoid. That one only pulls in when in fifth gear. I forget the other reasons.

Hugues, thanks for the info. But I'm not sure you answered my question. I'm still stock. Diagram shows where the probe connects to the connector. But I need to know where you plug that connector back after (lets say you check it). After all, the instruction say "Disconnect the neutral switch connector."

Please explain a little further if you must.

Thanks,
Jason

There should be a set of wires around your starter or coming from that area that hook up to the neutral switch and other wires that are on the transmission -Gabe

I believe the wires go up towards the starter and connect into one of the two main harness plugs located under the trailing coil. If you still have the plug on the wires you should be able to just match it up to the other end. But I think you have the overdrive plug, If your neutral safety switch was disconnected, you would probably not be able to start the car, or maybe it will bypass the circuit and let you start it without the clutch pedal. My car has no neutral safety switch since it used to be an automatic. I can start my car without the clutch. It's dangerous if you're an idiot. Do your reverse lights come on when you shift into reverse? If so then you have the wires hooked up correctly on the side of the tranny. You do not need to have the safety switch to run the car properly. I yanked the wires right out of my safety switch and my cars starts just fine every time.

My car used to be an automatic so my wiring is not the same but very similar. So don't go using ALL CAPS on me if I'm wrong.

From FSM88 non-turbo
see www.fc3s.org how-to->manuals (section about wiring diagrams)

The neutral switch connector is E-07
it connects to the transmission (as shown on picture above)
It is GB - B connector, so you have a green with black stripe wire and a black wire on that connector E-07

The GB wire connects to FE-02 connector which is a connector between front and engine harness
The B wire connects to FE-03 connector which is a connector between front and engine harness
(see pic for what they look like ... pic for where they are follows in next post)
