Need some help buying an RX7
Okay heres the deal,
I'm looking at purchasing a 1991 rx7 project. It has everything but an engine, and he is asking $600. It needs body work and paint. It comes with an installed TIG welded rollcage, stage 4 clutch, and a lightened flywheel. There is another local guy that is selling an engine from a GSL-SE that says RE-EGI on the top. I have searched and I haven't been able to figure out if putting that engine in the car is worth it. Is it an engine that you can modify easily? Everything I have found says it has a measly 135hp. I have found tons of information on 13B swaps, but what 13B? I can also pick up almost any part from the guy selling the engine. I just need to know if it is worth it and about how much it will cost me. I'm looking for a project but nothing too hard or expensive because my budget is only currently $2000 to get a decent reliable car.
Any information on the engine would be great. I just want to know if it is worth it or not.

Although it may be possible to put the 13B from the '84-85 GSL-SE into an S5, I've never read about anyone here doing it. Not too many people are looking for a drop in horsepower; the '91 shell you're looking at had 160 horsepower stock.
You might want to do a search on swapping the second gen motor into the first gen chassis which is not so uncommon. You could "reverse engineer" your planned swap from that I guess; at least then you'd have a good idea of what you're up against. Some of the issues will be: OMP conversion or elimination/premix, engine mounts, fuel injection vs. carb, ECU vs. standalone, etc. Sounds like you were planning to use this as a daily driver so you may need it to pass emissions, which will probably be a very tall order with this kind of swap. Also I'd be surprised if you could pull this off and make it reliable for under $2000, but I'm no expert.

+1 The initial price may be cheap and they are great cars when taken care of, but if you don't know what you are doing, or NEED one car to get around and do not have a back up of cash...do not get a 7.
