Need help wiring an Aftermarket stereo to use RCA plugs on the headrest amplifier.
I am setting up an aftermarket stereo to use the RCA outputs to run the factory headrest amp on my 1991 Convertible. I want to use maintain fuction of the stock controls. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO WIRE THE SPEAKERS TO THE REAR OUTPUTS. I would do that no problem if I wanted to.
Here is my question. I have found the imput lines for the headrest and rear amps and I am going to solder RCA plugs to them. I want to know which wires are the positive (inner RCA connection) and which are the negative (inner RCA connection). The wires are Brown and Brown/white and Blue/orange and Blue/Black. I have already figured which are the left and right channels. The speakers would work whichever way I hook them up but they could be running out of phase and affect sound quality.
Also what is the Blue/Black wire for? I was not planning to use the amp for the rear speakers but I may not be able to because of this wire. I think the rear speakers wires from an aftermarket unit should run the rear speakers fine is wired directly to them.
I will make a writeup for S5 once I finsih this.
here is a link to the wiring diagram.

nononono, please dont do that. ive been doing stereos for a long time, full systems and the such. DO NOT SOLDER RCA's to the factory amp.
a couple of reasons
1) more chances than not that the factory amp is dying or far gone
2) soldering RCA's is kinda like slapping a "grounding system", it wont work and will probably degrigate the sound quality, im not sure
do this, use a 2 channel amp and plug those rca's into the aftermarket deck. then run the factory speaker wires into THAT amp. that should work, mind you that you would need to run wires for the amp!
i hope that helps!
peace

I agree that soldering rca's into the stock amp may not be the best idea the voltages on them may not mesh up and you might get too little voltage (low or no sound) or to much voltage (zort). Of course if you screw up, vert amps are cheap. Hell I'll give you mine for $10.
that being said......
If you are asking how to solder the RCAs itself. the center prong is + the outer ring is neg.
Are you trying to get the stock stereo headrest speaker controls to work? I';ve been trying to figure this one out for quite some time. No testing though.
By the way the speakers in the vert headrests are a funkie 2x3 size. if i could have fit some 3 1/2 coaxes into the damn things i would probably wire the damn things up. But since not......

I have had no problem doing this to Audis in the past but Audi shows which are the the positive and negative wires. I have hooked an aftermarket amp to the factory head unit and I have hooked an aftermarket headunit to the factory amps. Going to the aftermarket amp gives you an adjustable gain unlike using the factory amp. The audi I worked on was a little quiet but that would be due to the JVC headunit only having a 1 volt RCA. I can resolve this problem simply by switching headunits.
This still hasn't answered my biggest question.
