NEED HELP! shifting problems.

So im driving home from hockey practice, and as im leaving its REALLY hard to shirt into reverse.
i think no big deal, but as soon as i try to go into first its ever harder to shift into that.

i called one of my buddys and he says my clutch is probably going out. im not very sure, im pretty stupid when it comes to cars, but im learning.

can you help me?

oh and if it is my clutch, how long is it safe to drive? how much will it cost to fix? and what kind of clutch should i buy?

could be throw out bearing or syncros, try shifting into 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th at a stand still then straight into 1st or R, if that works then it is synchros, otherwise throwout bearing or piolot bearing... not sure but if you call a tranny shop they will know

what i mean is, if you can't shift into 1 or R, with clutch in shift into any other gear. then shift into first and see if it is now easy as it should be, if so may be synchros

second test if first doesn't help
remove foot from clutch, press clutch again, now does it go in easy

not sure of the problem here not good at clutches, but sounds like synchros or bearing... these two things may be just solutions to be able to drive the car (half the time i shift i have to run through 2,3,4 then go back to 1 or R, or i just double clutch it then it works..

If you drive it around fine and then the problem starts happening over time then your pilot bearing is about to die.

Yes/No

It involves taking the transmission out which is a pain. But after you do it the first time its easy.

The actual Pilot Bearing is circa $20 for the bearing and seal. (YOU NEED THE SEAL)

You can rent a pilot bearing removal tool and slide hammer from autozone for free and drive the new one in with a socket if you are careful.

Read up, search the boards on how to do it, read everything again and then go replace your bearing.

Take your time, label everything and go piece by piece and you will be fine.
