Need Help With Price

I own 1986 RX-7 GXL with a factory automatic transmission. This car is in mint condition - both inside and out - with only 73,000 kms. The car has always been garage parked and has never been winter driven, raced or otherwise driven hard. I am the second owner and have owned the car for 15 years. It has all the options that were available, but has no A/C ... the fellow I bought the car from did not have the cash for A/C, but was promised an 'at-cost' install by the dealer which was not later honoured ... so the button's there, but no air.

I had the car professionally appraised for insurance purposes a couple of years ago. The appraiser was not able to find an identical vehicle for sale, but was offered some suggestions by other appraisers, dealers, etc. He was of the opinion that the car is rare and others whom he contacted agreed. Based on the prices he found for similar RX-7's and some input from other appraisers, he appraised the car at $11,500.00 Canadian ,which is what the car is currently insured for.

I have recently purchased a third vehicle and only have room for two in the garage, so I am thinking of selling either my truck or the RX-7. It was easy to establish a price on the truck, but I'm finding it difficult to establish an accurate value on the RX-7. I've found a few high milage and/or non-factory '86 RX-7 GXL's for sale, but they all had standard transmissions and most had rust or other body/mechanical problems. I've also talked to several local appraisers who were not able to find anything identical on which to base a price.

Does anyone know how much this car is worth and/or how many may still be on the road???

They only built about 15000 of those in 86- so its not that rare.

Many of the 86 and 87 models didn't have factory air, but rather port installed air. Sounds like they either didn't put it in, or the last owner lied (most likely option as the GXL model sold in the states all came with factory air).

In the USA that model with that few miles would be worth (in US dollars):
Dealer trade in$1,687
Private party sale:$2,347
dealer retail sale: $3,449

Of course subtract $200 (USD) off that for not having the stock factory air.

Not sure what that works out in Canadian dollars however.

Thanks Icemark. I guess there is no need to increase my insurance coverage. For those dollars, it's the truck that is going to be sold.

Thanks again.

Well Helm, as of 1 minute ago, your 11, 500 Canadian RX is worth $9637.91 US dollars. Keep the truck and sell Ice the car.

I dabble in certain financial futures and investments. Go to NYSE for current exchange rates , or hit Ask.com and type in exchange rates, and you should get money rates.
