Unhappy Need Help Please

ok, i am baffled. i own an 88 gxl and i wanted to be stupid and take my injectors out and try to clean them. i got the intake tube off and the bolts out of the fuel rail. i lifted the fuel rail up about an inch and decided to put it back together cause i really didnt know what i was doing. while i was putting it back together i wanted to make sure the intake ports all work, but without the intake sensor attached i turned it on and reved it to make sure they worked. they did and i put it together the rest of the way. from there i started it up. it stared and idled fine but when i tried to rev it, it would only go to about 1500 rpms and cut out. if i hold the pedal down it revs at about the same but wont go higher and i could smell that it was running very rich. i called a friend and he said that i should disconnect the battery for a little while and it should reset the computer. i tried that but it didnt work. he also mentioned that the connections for the intake sonsor might be rusty of something so i tried to clean that off, nothing. he also said it might be a crack in an intake hose or the vacum line, but i couldnt find anything. so if anyone has any idea what might be wrong and might have any idea on how to fix it, i would be gald to hear any sugestions. my car isnt much use if it doesnt go anywhere.

Here's an example of something

really stupid to say.

Do a search dude......uh, yeah, search it dude.

No really.

Did you make sure you put the electrical wires back on the fuel injectors? (okay that was a stupid question)

If you're smelling fuel, you might not have the gromet that's on the fuel injector, inside its home, and thus isn't correctly sealing. Or when you lifted it up by an inch, it fell off (maybe) and your car is now a fire bomb.

I know that the seals on the injectors can fall off the injector tips sometimes when messing around with the secondary fuel rail.

Yeah, I really really think that if you're smelling fuel after messing around with the fuel rail, you have leak. Not that is or isn't running rich. You smell fuel cause you messed with fuel rail, and something isn't sealed right anymor

careful! fire bomb

It's recommended that you apply a little oil to each o-ring before installing the injectors.

And re-setting the fuel computer (ECU) is something that you can only do with FDs (and maybe late FCs - not sure, but the ECU in my 86 NA is definitely NOT resettable.)

You definitely jiggled something somewhere. Try taking it apart again and putting it back together. You may either notice something out of place or maybe it just plain get it right this time.
