Need help with hacked up ignition wiring (pics)

I have been cleaning up some hacked wiring that was done to my FC (not by me) and need help with a couple ignition wires. It is an 87 Turbo II with a Greddy turbo timer harness installed. I would like to revert this back to stock if possible with the exception of the turbo timer harness (which is not currently working)

First: This red wire is spliced into a thick Black/Green wire and connects to a Green/White wire in this two pin connector. The Blue/Red wire in the connector is not connected to anything.

Second: This speaker wire is connected from a thick Black/Red wire and goes to the starter.

How do I get rid of this ghetto wiring and still have everything work? Everything is currently working fine but I do not like wiring like this on my car. Sorry for the picture quality. Thanks in advance.

Large Black/Red is probably the START signal wire leaving the ignition switch.

Green/Black is probably the wire leaving the interlock switch that is/was part of the start circuit.

Looks like he bypassed the interlock switch and the starter cut relay and another elect plug and went directly to the starter solenoid with that one.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the black/green wire.

This car require you to step on the clutch to start it??? I'm asking if the interlock switch works on this car. Some early RX did not have a interlock switch.

I was asking if the plug had one wire colored Green/White and the other Blue/Red or not. IF both wires are those colors, then that plug is or rather goes to the igniton key cylinder light wires.

The L/R is on the batt buss so it should be hot all the time. The Green/White would go to the CPU and the CPU puts a gnd on the G/W when..........the door is opened "I think". So you'll be able to see the key hole which is rediculous becase after you own a car a few months you don't need to look where the hole is in the ignition switch anymore because it's an instinctive thing after a few months.

The above applys if that plug has the two wires I suggested. Why he has HIS red wire going to it is not for me to know.

is there an easy way to return this back to stock? or should i just leave it as/is?

To answer those questions it would help to know if this car has/had a clutch interlock switch or not. It also would help to know if you have factory theft or not.

And in your second to last picture I noticed a two wire plug b/t the brake and clutch pedals. One wire yellow??? and the other is ????black or???? Need help with that plug? or not?

On a stk TurboII with a clutch interlock switch....................the black/red would leave the ignition switch and enter the front harness and go to a elect plug called F-61.

That plug would have one other wire in it and that wires color would be black/green.

That plug attaches to the pigtail of the clutch interlock switch itself. If you step on the clutch pedal power passes from the black/red and into the black/green wire.

The black/green wire then goes into the front harness with the other wires in there and travels into the engine compartment on the left side of the car.

It terminates into a six socket plug that attaches to the Starter Cut Relay. See the attached jpg.

The starter cut relay on cars with theft, is located just aft of the Main Relay. On cars without factory theft that plug is laying loose under the trail coil assy with a blue jumper plug on it.

So. The reason I ask about factory theft is..........on factory theft cars there is a relay for that six socket plug I just mentioned. IF there is no factory theft then that six socket plug gets a blue colored jumper plug attached to it. That blue jumper plug has but one jumper wire in it. That jumper wire jumpers the black/green wire in the plug to a black/white wire.

The black/white wire heads to the starter but passes thru another elect plug along the way as shown in the attached jpg. That other plug has a name of FE-05 as shown in the jpg. It's either a six socket plug or a four socket plug depending on it the car has ABS or not.

BLACK/YELLOW and YELLOW wires in the small plug.............plug attaches to the brake pedal switch. If memory serves the brake pedal switch should have TWO plugs attached to it for cars with cruise control. That plug is used for the cruise control to turn off the cruise while driving.

Blue plug in your picture is the one I mentioined. You can see how it jumps the black/green to the black/white. The black/white then heads for the starter solenoid but prior to that it goes thru either a six socket plug or a four socket plug depending on if you have ABS or not. That/those plugs are located somewhere under the area of the blue jumper plug. Waaaaay down there probably.

Your pic of the clutch switch................at this present moment I'm not sure if your showing the lower switch on the clutch or the upper switch on the clutch pedal. Kinda looks like the lower one which is not the clutch interlock. I need to think on this for a moment or so. There's a good pic somewhere on this site of it.

i took the cruise control out which would explain why this isnt hooked up. i will see if i can find where it goes and hook it up so it's not just hanging there.

so should i have a wire down there that should go to the starter? or would i need to splice a new one in from that connector? if there is one down there already, do you happen to know what color it is?

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...switch+picture

In the thread above they show the clutch interlock switch. The guy in the second post has circled it in red. Hard to tell what your looking at if you've not seen one. But its a black rectangular shaped outfit and is on the other side of the pedal than the other clutch switch. It should have a long wire pigtail that connects to a plug with the black/red and green/black wires mentioned earlier. or was that red/black?whatever.

From the mazdatrix site you can see they sell two types of switches for the lower switch. One for non cruise and one for cars with cruise. Cars with cruise would have a place on it for two elect plugs.

Talking about the blue jumper plug with the green/black and black/white jumpered.............the black/white goes to another plug down there prior to going to the starter solenoid. I need to know if you have ABS or not to tell you what the plug looks like.

The wire color leaves the blue jumper area and stays black/white thru the next plug and on to the starter solenoid as a black/white wire. I've no idea what the original owner did when he ran his speaker wire to the starter solenoid. Might be laying about and frankly I've looked at mine in the past and the color of the wire is questionable. I couldnt distinguish it from black/white or brown or??? whatever color.

So? You have ABS? or not?

And I revised my post just above this one a bit so you might reread it.

And while here.............long ago I bypassed my clutch interlock switch on one car 'cause I like to just reach in the car thru the window and turn the key to start the car and not have to push a clutch pedal to do so. A convienience thing for me. I've yet to run myself over.

The other two 87 came without the interlock switch. Yeah! Early versions did not have it.

See attached jpg.

Cars with ABS would have a round shapped plug with six sockets in it as shown in the attached jpg. The cars without ABS would have a square plug with but four sockets in it.

So after the blue jumper area the black/white goes down and enters either a round plug or a square plug and then exits that plug and goes directly to the starter solenoid.

BUT here's the problem maybe.........you car had ABS and most likely had the round six socket plug. Then someone removed the Front harness and replaced it. So it's questionable if you car has a round six socket plug or a square four socket plug with the black/white wire.

Plus this........one side of that round plug was part of the Front harness and the other half of that round plug was part of the Engine harness. Soooooo lets say you originally had a round plug in the front harness and now that plug is square becasue of the change of the front harness. Well a round six socket plug will not mate with a square four socket plug..........unless you REALLY, REALLY try hard (humor).

This fact might explain why the original owner has his speaker wire rigged to the starter solenoid?? likely scenario.

UPDATE:

i do have the interlock switch and as far as i can tell, everything is connected up there. I hope these are the right connectors? They are the only ones i could find in the area. The 4 wire connector does not have a black wire and none of them are striped so I dont think I have the non-abs harness.

Ok. I remember what the deal is now. There is a difference b/t 87 cars and the 88 cars.

In this small area the 88 wiring diagram isn't quite right for a 87 turbo car.

On the 87 car the B/W wire leaves the area of the Blue jumper you found and goes to a plug called X-08. That X-08 on a TURBO car is a single wire plug and round in shape.

I've been looking for that plug on my stk 87 and did not find it right away.

That said the X-08 on a non turbo 87 car has six wires in it. On the top row is BW, YL and a empty socket. On the bottom row is two emptys and one B/W wire. So which BW is the start wire is questionable right now for me.

I kinda remember the six socket plug on my car but that six socket plug is non turbo cars and mines a turbo.

I'll look a little further later and see what I can see.

Basically the 88 wiring diagrams don't match a 87 in this area of the start circuit. I remeber this from a long ago swap someone was doing. Made life miserable for the guy doing the swap.
