Need help with freshly assembled motor - won't rotate
#26
ouch
i ruined my first rebuild because the oil control rings were binding and it scratched and grooved up the surfaces of the irons. the engine ran for 10 minutes with clouds of smoke.
we all learn from our mistakes, just be a little more careful next time.

Yeah, it really didn't take as much force as you would think. I was turning it with a breaker bar, and just rotated it until it felt like I was having to use too much force. Of course it was too late at that point.
Just to update, in case you haven't seen my other threads, I did get it rebuilt not too long after this. My parents took pity on me and let me take over the garage to rebuild the engine. They still haven't really gotten it back yet....

To arghx, its good your getting some help. Really, my main problem wasn't so much that I was inexperienced (although that was a good bit of it) but that I was doing it completely alone. You really need another person to help with lowering the center iron in place, cause thats what screwed me up.
Good luck with the build

I usually use a second person to hold the e-shaft up, but on my last build I was anxious to get the damn thing together so I used my knee to hold it up while maneuvering the middle iron. It's a tricky bitch any way you do it lol. Glad you got it running Sideways7. How's it run?

Well, its mostly running, lol. It was running pretty well for 3k miles, then I decided it was getting too hot and I need to swap in the other rad I had. I ended up having to get a new water pump as well, plus I changed out all of the intake gaskets to get rid of a vac leak (thats still there....) Then I started having weird electrical problems and systematically replaced all of the grounds. I still had some problems, and found that the output wire from the pressure sensor was broken. Then I just discovered yesterday that my fuel pump is shot (puts out 28 PSI max).
So maybe it will be finally running right before too long..... lol
I'm just glad that I enjoy working on this car, cause I would hate it otherwise.
