Need guidance buying HAWK pads

Went looking for Hawk pads and found them. But they're a special order and the store has to put a deposit down - so we want to get it right. And I wasn't certain about my answers to the counter guy's questions.

I have an 86 NA GXL and I plan on keeping the AAS.

- His choices in the catalogue are standard suspension and heavy duty.

- The pads are also described as ferro carbon. What does this mean and how does it compare to semi-metallic?

- There are several types of pads to choose from. Each has a letter code (i.e. F, N, S.) One, I think it was N, was described as being best for autox and street racing. This sounds like me. However, there was a warning about the pads burgering rotors over time. Is this promo BS or should I be concerned (if I order them)?

Any other tips on choosing/shipping Hawk pads would be appreciated.

The Hawk HPS is the preffered STREET pad - it is easy on rotors, stops well cold, and it will also take the heat of an autocross run or a mild track day - the HP+ pad is still usable on the street but takes a little more heat to work They are harder on the rotors and will still fade at the track (but not as fast as HPS) Hawk BLUE and/ BLACK are strictly TRACK pads - need too much heat to work on the street and DESTROY rotors when cold - Ferro-Carbon pads are a matrix of Powdered IRON and CARBON and heat bonded w/out any ORGANIC binders - SemiMetalic pads are generally sintered bronze or copper in an organic fiber & resin binder (the binder is similar to the glue in particle board) and can't handle as much heat as carbon compounds
