Need a Catback for both N/A and Turbo applications...
Hey
To make a long story short I need a new catback system for what is currently my 88 GXL N/A. I am in the process of picking up a TII parts car and will be doing the swap this coming summer.
The problem comes here, when I was reading all the info on the RB cat back stuff they have two different systems for turbo and n/a. The part numbers are different and all too, but the price is the same and I couldn't find any info about the differences.
Then at Corksport's website I find their powerseries catback which as many of you already know is considerably cheaper than the RB catback, and it says it can be used on both N/A and Turbo.
So like everyone's going to say, search man, use the freakin search button, well I did, and from what I found everyone's buying the RB system but asking for videos of the CS cat back. Which nobody posted or there are old links. So not to revive a dead horse and ask for those videos, I'm just going to ask, can I just get an RB N/A cat back and keep using that after the TII swap, or should I get the CS exhaust for the next ~8 months and then pick up a RB Turbo back when I can afford it?
I don't wanna get the RB catback right now and then buy the RB turbo exhaust in 8 months because thats just too much damn money, and if you can explain the differences between the N/A and Turbo exhaust from RB or tell me there is no difference and they are just saying that, that would be great. Any other good options would be great too, the 2 things I dont want, to spend a lot of money right now and then again in 8 months, I'll spend some now and more later, and two I don't want a POS exhaust for these 8 months either...
Thanks guys

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The CS system is designed for Turbos, but can be used on non turbo's simply because it fits.
However much like the RB system for a Turbo, the performance on a non turbo will suffer slightly over what the dedicated non turbo system does.
Using a Turbo system on a non turbo still will be better than stock, however it will not be as good as a true system designed for a non turbo (such as the HKS or RB Non Turbo systems).

RB Cat Back Turbo-The pipes from the mufflers are welded to the outside of the flange. With and N/A the pipes actually go inside the flange opening and are welded. Therefore the turbo pipes are larger. I would think that baffles in the Turbo mufflers are different also as RB states that Turbo mufflers should not be used on the N/A due to excessive noise.

Thanks for the info mark, I appreciate it
I think I'll finalize the parts car deal to make sure I'm going to have the swap ready and then grab a turbo back from RB I guess that's the best idea, I'm still open to other ideas of course...
Also: do you think its bad to drive the car with one muffler missing...it uh...kinda got scraped off on some road that was under construction, so atm I have a muffler on the left side, a rusty Y pipe and nothing on the right side, save for some damage to my bumper....
EDIT:
Thanks turbonut...I couldn't find that info about not using the muffler anywhere, I appreciate it man

I've got the RB turbo cat-back system on my NA, simply because it was in stock at the time I ordered an out-of-stock NA catback, AND the y-pipe is the same dimensionally for both. The muffler cans are just a tad bit bigger for the turbos, that's all. At least that's what I was told by Mazdatrix
Sounds good, looks good...
