Need advice on buying jspec motor.....

I have an 87 TurboII with intake, 2.5" downpipe, 3" midpipe, Apex N1 cat-back, Walbro 255lph pump w/rewire, removed airpump, a/c, power steering, and I'm really in a dilema. When I first bought the car back in March 2001, the guy selling it told me it was rebuilt 30k ago. Since at that time my father was basically running the show of helping me buy a car, he test drove it and all since I didn't know how to drive stick, and we probably could have avoided buying an RX-7 with a bad engine if we had just redlined it once and seen all the smoke come from the exhaust, but we didn't. When I bought the car it only had the intake and midpipe put in. It always smoked a little when driven hard or redlined when I fist bought it, but now it's just totally unbearable. Redlining the car just once at a stop will literally create a smokescreen, and is very embarrasing on the street. It's a lot of bluish/white smoke, which probably means bad oil and coolant seals. The really crazy thing is that besides all the damn smoke, the car actually runs good, has plenty of power, and good compression. My first thoughts were to just sell it, but I now realize that their is no way anybody would buy it when they saw all that smoke come from the exhaust if they redline it(yes it really is that bad). So now my only thoughts are to save up for a jspec motor and have it put in, but then I'm confused on whether this will change my mind on whether to sell it or not? If the jspec turns out to be a good motor, then I might wanna keep it, but I was really looking for a different performance car, so as you can see this will confuse me on whether I should keep the car and continue to build it up or just sell it with the new motor. Do you guys think I should just sell it as is for much less money, buy a jspec and keep it and continue to build it up, or sell it with the jspec motor and sell it for more money??? Also, is the jspec motor a good route to get a strong, reliable engine that WON'T smoke at higher rpms and burn oil like my car does now?? Thanks.

the smoke COULD be from a miss-adjusted m.o.p. I would try to fix the 7, but if you want a differint car than sell it and get what ever you want.

JSPECS are cheap but nothing beats a fresh motor, I tried to go the cheap way with a JPSEC and got burnt, thats not usually the case but I still would just go with a rebuild, you'll be better off.

If it was a misadjusted MOP, then wouldnt the smoke ONLY be bluish in color? This smoke is both white and blue, and A LOT of it, it's unbearable on the street, and very embarassing as well. My mechanics saw the smoke and basically confirmed to me that the coolant and oil seals are pretty much shot. I know that the only thing I can really do is drop in a jspec motor, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it, if I should just sell it as is for much less money, or put in the new engine and then sell it for a lot more money.

See, I am having this same problem. I really want to go with the J-spec engine becaue it just is a cool way. However, I wan't to know what I need to do to he J-spec in order for me to run it. I don't quite know what I am going to do right now. Mine is a 89 N/a that does the same thing and I was maybe just wondering how I would go about fixing the MOP? If this is the casual reason than I will go with this and save up for the fix in the future. By the way mine was rebuilt about 44k ago

Wow man, I really do feel sorry for you if the engine was rebuilt 44k miles ago and it already smokes, plus its a N/A it should have lasted waaay longer than that. I really don't know when my engine was rebuilt or if it even was ever rebuilt in the first place. The guy who sold it said it was rebuilt 30k miles ago, but that is probably bullshit. The odometer reads 110,000 miles, so the engine could very well be original. I think if it was a bad MOP then the smoke would only be blue since it would be burning only oil, but the smoke I get at higher rpms is white as well, which tells me that coolant seals are also on their way out. I know I need the jspec but I'm afraid that if I get the jspec motor and it still smokes, then what am I gonna do. My wost fear is spending all that money to drop in a new engine to try and sell the car and then be screwed over because it still smokes and I can't sell it.
