Need advice on the B/U light switch

Hi,
90 vert. Backup Lights don't work. Zero juice on the "switch" side while in reverse/power on, so the "Relay" fix that I found on a search didn't work (thanks IceMark & others for help during that debacle). I broke down & spent the $40 bucks for the new switch (yes, its fur lined with gold trim; jeez...).

Problem is, I can't get a wrench on it. Its on the top of the transmission near the starter about mid way back. I might be able to cut the wires & get a socket on it, but I don't have the socket big enough (1 inch would work) at the moment. So here, finally, is the question:
Does anybody know if I can get in from the top thru the console between the seats? Am I gonna have to <gulp> pull the Tranny (WAY out of my league)?

Thanks, this forum rox.

I can't see how you could do it from the top..

remove the exhaust, put a jack under the tranny, remove thw 4 bolts holding the trans mount on, and lower it down enough to get at it.

Don't need to pull the tranny, just drop it enough to get a socket and room to turn it

HTH

Is there any gasket or seal I'll need to, or should (while I'm at it) replace?

Thanks, that ought to keep me busy for a few hours this weekend.
