Need Advice
Hey, first off thanks for taking your time to read this. My buddy has an 88 GXL 85563 miles on the original motor, bone stock, 5 speed, nearly in perfect condition except an incident where he ran over a rock so on the passenger side its dented upwards on account to a girl telling him he's fine on clearance of it. His clock just went out aswell. Well anyways, after not driving his 7 for 3 days, he started his car up and an excessive amount of white smoke came from his mufflers for almost 5 min. This is the first time its ever happened and yes i searched, which i learned that it could be an coolant seal that blew or something with the oil. But, thats the only time it happened. Since then he's drivin it atleast once a day, and it hasn't happened since, and this conecrns me because im going to be buying the 7 within 2 or so weeks. I dont want to buy it if something major is wrong with it because im only 17, i couldn't afford to just buy this and that, or another engine right away. Oh and if it helps, the temp. here has been around 30-40 degrees. Thanks guys, Im still new to this stuff, and again...i did try and search, i just felt it would be better to state MY situation because it seems that other posts, these peoples cars smoked everytime it started, but my buddies only did it that once.

Something is wrong. From your searches, you will learn how to check for a blown coolant seal.
Perform these checks.
Check for blown oil seals by holding the revs at 4500 rpm for 30 seconds. If smoke billows out, the seals are blown.
What does the smoke smell like and look like? If it is sweet, it is coolant. If it is blue, it is oil. If it is white, but not sweet (really nasty), it is gas, meaning the engine was starting after being flooded.
