NA to T2 Drivetrain: how did you like it, and flywheel opinions

I'm almost done my T2 drivetrain conversion. I was wondering how you NA guys liked the change with gearing, etc..?

Also, the last thing I need to pick up is the flywheel, which weight flywheel did you pick up to compliment the NA motor/T2 drivatrain combo?

I have been searching and haven't found previous threads relating to this yet.

Thanks for your input.

light flywheel is definitely more important for NA, see if you can't get that 10 lbs flywheel, though you probably will have to slip the clutch a bit more leaving from a stop.

Gearing changes shouldn't be major between the two.

Not meaning to thread jack and im sure this has been covered plenty of times but is there any pros to changing to a turbo drivetrain? I tried to search a couple of days ago but i kept coming up with wrong threads.

Well the reasons for me were simple: I'm prepping my car for later on when it may make more power. So if I decide to turbo, or supercharge, or ITB"s, etc... the rest of my car will already be beefier to handle what I throw at it as the T2 parts are superior to the NA parts.

the gearing in the tranny is different 5th is taller so the N/A engine will see lower RPM at highway speed. I think it also has a slightly higher first gear

i just did it, i like it. 1st gear is shorter and i can accelerate just a little bit faster. and i am loving the TII LSD =D over the n/a open diff... i wish i was able to afford a light weight flywheel, all i did was get a used TII flywheel and resurface it. I havent had any problems but i do notice that the engine revs a little slower (no load), but its no biggie...

depends, it's generally true, but some people have a .752 5th gear which is taller than the S5 turbo tranny's.

Ok thanks guys. U all were a great help. I would like to do a turbo swap sometime in the next couple of years and i know the drivetrain would have to be changed over as well. Again I really appreciate the help.

The differences in ratios between the NA and Turbo gearboxes are tiny. For 1st gear it's 0.2%, for 2nd it's 0.6%, for 3rd it's 1.8% and 4th is the same. Anybody who tells you they can feel the difference has an over-active imagination...

5th gear is the only one worth discussing. For S4's the difference is 9.3% and would be very noticeable, but for S5's it's only 3.2%.

lol... Well maybe you are right.... I probably do have an over-active imagination... since my 7 was down for 2-3 months i was so excited and probably exaggerated it a bit when ii got it running. but i still love how it drives now, well i have good ujoints now and a rebuilt TII trans. compared to one with dead synchros and a bad ujoints which ultimately ended up destroying my trans when the ujoint gave out... (the drive shaft cracked the shifter housing upon impact when the ujoint broke, welding it couldnt fix it... in case your wondering how it destroyed the trans...)
