NA RE conversion throttle cable question

Hi,

The title says it all, Which throttle cable do I need to put a 13bre in an S5 NA car?

If its the turbo cable then is there any difference between the S-4 and S-5 throttle cable? (mazdatrix has both, and they have different part numbers)

Thanks,
Colin

99% sure you will need the turbo cable. The NA cable is very short and won't reach to the other side of the throttle body.

S4and S5 cables are basically the same as I recall.

Ah, put it on the other side of the throttle spool...that makes sense.

Yah, I haven't actually fit mine yet (thanks for the reminder), but from what I can tell, since the RE came from a RHD car, the original throttle cable was on the RH side of the TB and the cruise was on the LH side. Essentially opposite from US-spec FC. The pic shows it pretty well, but I think you should be able to run the stock NA cable to the cruise control side of the TB. Need a couple more angles on that pic, but looks like it's a custom (albeit simple) bracket... Looks good -- gives me ideas.

I wanted to clear this up incase anyone else searches this thread. The turbo throttle cable is not a direct bolt on item to the 13b-re its not long enough. That is the inner cable does not come out of the sheathing far enough to engage the cable cam. I used it by cutting about 7 inches out of the cable sheathing on the firewall side and with that it looks and works like it was oem. This is to effectivly lengthen how far the inner braided cable sticks out of the sheathing.......

Hmm, I might have to disagree Slo. In fact I'd say the opposite is true. I literally was just messing with my throttle cable last night and the actual inner cable portion is actually too long when using the stock RE bracket. Now granted, I'm talking about routing it on the drivers side of the TB just like the stock NA -- NOT wrapped around to the pass side like the TII... In this arrangement, as I said above, it attaches to the cruise control bracket of the RE motor.

At any rate, I was just contemplating how I could shorten the length of that inner cable so I wouldn't have to make a custom bracket. If I figure out an easy way, I will, otherwise I'll just fab a custom bracket much like the one pictured earlier in this thread.

Your using the the cruise controll throttle cam on the 13-bre. I am using the cam that was actually intended to be for the accelerator cable. It is on the opposite side of what your looking at. Your engine actually may not have come with it. So yes i attemting too use the cruise cam as seen in the links above the inner cable is to long hence the need for some fabrication. If you allready have a TII, or at least a TII cable and your engine came with the part that was intended to hold the cable, on the passenger side of the engine (US) then the cable is too short (the inner cable) and it can be easily modified with a dremmel, a pair of dikes and a steady hand.

I think I see what you mean. You're saying the entire cable assembly from a TII is long enough to reach, but that the actual inner cable portion doesn't stick out too far. Gotcha...

Just for clarity though for whomever reads this later, the TII cable is longer and can wrap clear around to the pass side of the motor. The NA cable is short and will not reach that far. So in essence what everyone is saying is that you could switch to a TII cable and potentially modify it as Slo mentions or use the NA cable on the cruise control side and either fab an extended bracket or figure out how to take up some slack in the cable and use the stock RE bracket.

Hope that helps "the next guy" and the original poster...
