NA axles into TII, or easier to fix split drive axle boot? *searched*

OK my issue is that my left drive axle boot has a split.
It holds no more grease.

I have a set of NA drive axles, to temporarily replace my broken TII ones.
I know its a bad idea, but key word being temporary.

I searched and couldn't get a complete straight answer on if they are interchangable or not. Does anyone know?
Is there a different length, diameter, bolt pattern?
I believe they're from a NA with an LSD rear end.

My question is, would it just be easier to replace both boots and be over with it?

My TII is pretty much bone stock, 88 10AE.

Sorry if this is a repeat question, I searched but couldn't find my answer.

Thanks in advance.

The reason the N/A ones won't work is because the flanges have a different bolt pattern.

They won't work unless you pop the splined end out of the diff itself, and put the n/a splined flanges in, even then I'm not sure if it will work.

That makes sense. Are you completely sure about it? Just because I've gotten different answers about it, and when I searched some people thought it might work, and some didn't.

I wouldn't go through that much, I'm just going to try to get my money back for the axles.

Thank you for the quick response. I just want to make sure. I wish I had a pic or something to compare to help others in the future.

that isn't the correct number for the TII output shaft, it's one of them but it changes based on the VIN.

I have no idea what is different on the part itself.

The NA halfshaft is smaller in diameter and the flang bolt pattern is smaller. Why don't you just replace the boots on your T2 halfshafts. I did this a few weeks ago, its a nasty job. CV joint grease is extremely sticky, and as long as not too much dirt has gotten into the boots and started grinding into the CV joint it will probably be fine.

I also did this on an old DSM I had, the boot was split for at least a year but the CV joint parts where fine.

Yup it has a different bolt pattern because the flange is smaller on the N/A. It's really not that hard to put a new boot on like Slo said, instead of using the cv clamps you can use a hose clamp and cut the excess off, I have seen zip ties used, but thats damn ghetto.

A CV clamp tool is only 15 dollars, just do it right.

yep, the CV clamp tool will make your life much easier.

If he went to his dealer and ordered the part with that number there's a nonzero (actually probably more like 66%) chance that it wouldn't work in his car.

Lol I work as a tech at a Mazda dealership.
That's where I do all the work on my 7, for free. We have all the tools already.

I think the boot idea is the good way to go.
I was just wondering since I have these NA axles sitting here

Thanks all
